oh ffs, this depresses me so much. Is his faith really so vulnerable he has to clutch at straws to try and justify it? Who's he trying to convince with that? Sounds to me like someone with doubts desperately trying to reassure himself, all the while undermining his own credibility to onlookers. Is there more to life than meets the eye? Sure. Do I believe in God? Absolutely. Is that an angel or a moth. Moth. Blatantly a moth. Moth moth moth moth moth.

Exactly this. People losing the faith they were brought up in is hard, but especially so when that faith is such a big part of their lives. This kind of claim is that problem manifested.

Support groups exist for clergy who lose their faith, and deprogramming can help people leaving the more cult like sects.
