Only South Africans come to see my itchings.
For the rest - Etchings are what you come to see, itchings are what you take home as a souvenir... at least until I can afford a gift shop!

So on a whole page we get one relevant post relating to life and alien life.
Maybe you others should have your own subsection, look in case you were asleep, Corky believed the spin that was fed the general public to ridicule Darwin and now you are all repeating it, absolutely hilarious!
Darwin only put forward a hypothesis about the origins of life, and it wasn't until neo-darwinists used DNA/genetics to confirm his theory that it could be proved.(it's funny watching some of you take what I know about Darwin, and try to twist it). Darwin said that Humans have a common ancestor with apes, but humans are not descended from apes They believe the divergence between the two groups happened millions of years ago, probably in that early mammal phase. I can't imagine how the man who is now credited with writing one of the most significant books in recent science, would think when his lifetime of research was twisted and used to ridicule him and is still being mis interpreted.

Oh if you can't reason with them, the 'logical' ones, just have fun> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMJYw0sxZ0k
So this will be my last attempt at reasoning with you as despite my efforts you appear to be entirely content in your ignorance and your being so obtuse that i could probably spend a lifetime trying to explain how to think critically and in a logical manner.
The reason we only have one relevant post relating to life and alien life in a whole page is because people keep having to explain what's wrong with your reasoning and 'interpretations' of facts.
The only spin that was peddled to discredit Darwin was, as has already been said, from the church and it wasn't to discredit him, they labeled his theory as blasphemous.
Darwin did not put forward a hypothesis about the origins of life, the scientific literature that he published called "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" was a theory you ignoramus, one of the chapter titles is even called "difficulties on theory" Chapter VI page 173, is only one of the places where he talks specifically about "my theory"....and i quote...
Is that clear enough for you, or do you need to reread the book you claim to have already read?Quote:
By my theory these allied species have descended from a common parent; and during the process of modification, each has become adapted to the conditions of life of its own region, and has supplanted and exterminated its original parent and all the transitional varieties between its past and present states.
Seriously I've never come across someone as obstinate and totally unwilling to listen to logical, reasoned arguments, as yourself.
I think Phage cottoned onto how cretinous you truly are a long time ago, credit where credits due, however you've even managed to exhaust what i like to think is my considerable patience, and that's a feat not many people achieve.
Oh my, he's even resorted to posting clips from Family guy.....:stupid: :wallbash:
Corky>again your interpretation. Look you and ik9000 use exactly the same techniques. But really the desperation is astonishing. So let me get this straight now your whole argument is based on the definition of the word 'theory'. ' A supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained'. Maybe next you'll have to question the words 'supposition' and 'intended'. Look why don't you just chat with your friends.
And I bet you wish you'd posted it...
So why, in a thread about factual discoveries on Mars, do you even bring up the theories of Charlie Darwin, who NEVER actually met a single extraterrestrial in his entire life, nor went to another planet.... not ONE.... Mmm?
Presumably you go round saying the same to anyone in a pub who isn't discussing the football during a match day, no?
If it's that much of a problem for you, report everyone to the mods.
Which isn't very much, based on your own words so far... But hey, you reckon you've read his works and know so much about it - Surely, then, YOU can tell us where we should be looking for alien life and planets suitable for colonisation, right?
I can... and I'm sure he'd hate you for it.
[QUOTE=johnroe;3976247]So let me get this straight now your whole argument is based on the definition of the word 'theory'.
No, it's based on challenging your assertions.
But hey, I'm sure your plumbus is fully schleamed, right? You know, since word definitions can be reinterpreted to mean whatever you creatively imagine, and all...
Ah, so basically religion, then.... Gotcha.
Well, they already are. That's primarily what the forum is for. You should try it sometime!!
I think it's interesting to look for alien life, whether that's through long range spectroscopy, or other ways of detecting sun's with potential planets. I also think it's interesting that probes can use the same techniques to look for organic compounds. I think there may be intelligent alien life out there, but the cosmos is so massive, and the chances of life so remote, that I think it is still a dream. I've been finding conflicting ideas about mining on Mars, from ideas of mining space stations controlling automated robots, to actually living there.
It could be that humans are a completely unique species, and it's our progeny that will be the aliens going to distant stars. Here's an interesting document by F. Marin and C. Beluffi, 'COMPUTING THE MINIMAL CREW for a multi-generational space journey towards Proxima Centauri b',
'Under the set of parameters described in this publication, we find that a minimum crew of 98 people is necessary to ensure a 100% success rate for a 6300-year space travel towards the closest telluric exoplanet known so far'. from> https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1806/1806.03856.pdf
Disappointed with the standard of debate in this thread. Discuss the ideas not attack the person, and use moderate language. If you can’t do that, don’t take part.
