The way female circumcisions are performed in some cultures is down right shocking, I have nothing against 99.98% of body modifications as long as they are done by choice, there are still areas of the world though where female circumcision is performed at a young age without anaesthetic and under terrible conditions because of "tradition".

In your opinion it would have a smaller effect. It would certainly have a big effect on my life. I would be VERY upset if someone were to come near my old fella with a sharp implement and start cutting without anaesthetic! So much so, that I would be prepared to kill in order to prevent such a thing happening to me!

You loose a flap of skin which actually makes you more prone to std's and infections, ok it hurts a helluva lot and is prone to infection after the "surgery" but it ain't your life ruined, this on the other hand -

In total it is estimated that two million a year are subjected to genital mutilation.

There are three main types of circumcision:

* The removal of the tip of the clitoris;
* Total removal of the clitoris and surrounding labia;
* The removal of the clitoris and labia and the sewing up of the vagina, leaving only a small opening for urine and menstrual blood - a process known as infibulation.

So drastic is the mutilation involved in the latter operation that young brides have to be cut open to allow penetration on their wedding night and are customarily sewn up afterwards.

The aim of the process is to ensure the woman is faithful to her future husband. Some communities consider girls ineligible for marriage if they have not been circumcised.

Girls as young as three undergo the process, but the age at which the operation is performed varies according to country and culture.

Hang on - your quote is about the more servere forms of genital mutilation (which ALL circumcision is) and the sewing closed of the vaginal opening in order to compare with a different type of circumcision. You can't compare oranges and apples.....

I'm not quite sure what your trying to say, the methods in the quote I just posted are all different methods of female circumcision as performed by different cultures just as there are different methods of male circumcision in different cultures, the point is that it IS comparing oranges and apples, while I don't agree with forced male circumcision its effects do not inflict the same mental and physical damage. Simple as.
