RAF 100 Flypast
Man, I completely missed the news on the run up to this one:
Info taken from the RAF website:
"On 10 July, one hundred days after our official 100th birthday, join us in London for our centrepiece event, the RAF100 parade and flypast.
Over a thousand servicemen and women will take part in a parade on The Mall at 11:25am.
Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by The Prince of Wales, will present a new Queen's Colour to the Royal Air Force at a ceremony to mark its centenary, on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.
Then at 1:00pm The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, other Members of the Royal Family and members of the public will witness the historic flypast where up to 100 aircraft, representing the RAF’s history, will fly over Buckingham Palace.
It promises to be a spectacle never seen before and one that won’t be seen again for a very long time.
HOW YOU CAN TAKE PART
Join us on the Mall and experience the celebrations in person.
Watch live coverage on BBC One from 9:30am to 1:20pm or stream on BBC iPlayer to watch the events as they unfold live. Alternatively listen to BBC Radio 2 for further coverage.
Share your photos, videos and comments using the hashtag #RAF100
If you can't get to London but live in the surrounding area here's the route that the aircraft are taking in and out of London. So keep an eye (or two) on the skies so you don't miss out."

Re: RAF 100 Flypast
Just dots in the distance from here, must have been impressive from close up.
Edit: I mean, that was a *lot* of dots in the distance, I was just wondering if some were red dots when coloured smoke started coming from them :D

Re: RAF 100 Flypast
Watched this on the BBC. I remember being on Typhoons about 11 years' ago when we had to provide 9 for a Queen's flypast, and that was a struggle! Getting 22 nowadays probably isn't that hard.
A lot of single engined aircraft, which I believe need special dispensation to fly over London. I wonder if they class the Lightning as a single engined aircraft or not in this case?

Re: RAF 100 Flypast
Clarkson posted a picture on his twitter page with an arrow pointing to the first jet in the formation as James May.

Re: RAF 100 Flypast
Saw it from the roof of our office, such a shame the weather wasn't as good as last week.
Very impressive display of formation flying.

Re: RAF 100 Flypast
I didn't even know this was happening. But walking home with the Mrs in Enfield yesterday, I heard a helicopter. Thought it was the police helicopter that's usually around. Looked up and saw formation of Chinhooks, Pumas and a helicopter model I didn't recognise. I thought they were going from a base to another. But guess we were under the flight path. Shame because if I knew, I'd have kept an eye out for it.
