    Firewalls

    dunno where this goes but im looking for a new firewall free or to purchase wondering any recomendations
    I5 sandybridge (stock speed atm) - Titan Fehnrir Evo Cooler - 4 GB Corsair XMS3 1600 Mhz - Asus P8P67 Mobo - ASUS GTX480 - 2 x 24" Dual Monitor - NZXT Phantom Case (Sexy as!!) - Coolmaster 700w PSU

    Windows XP SP2 firewall is perfectly adequate

    Hmmmm - not so sure. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I have a firewalled router plug AVG free.

    I think the question was about software (application aware ) firewalls , rather than a NAT router and Antivirus software.

    If you were to get any outbound attack on your system , your Router would most likely do SFA to prevent your machine being just another Zombie attack bot.

    An application level firewall would be another layer to actually keep a list of what applications are allowed external traffic , something which the level of kit you have is unlikely to do.

    so Yes , the XP firewall has its place in a budget secure system , though personally I would go for the extra features of somethign like Agnitum Outpost ( free edition ).

    Depending on what you feel you have to protect , you can run as many or as little layers of web security as you want.

    If its a free one then Sygate personal firewall does the job for me.
