To be fair it wasn't the PM who sat on her hands for 2 years. That was David Davis.

Her only mistake was to invoke Article 50 as soon as she got the PM job in order to keep the fringe elements in her party off her back. She should have first come up with a plan, then invoke A50. Instead we get this shower.

That would be perhaps fair if DD and tge Brexit dept were actually running the negotiations. instead of being sidelined by No.10 and run by her people. That was a major part of why DD resigned.

But I certajnly don't agree that that was her only, or even her biggest, mistake.

Senior NI MP, Shailesh Vara, resigns:

    https://twitter.com/ShaileshVara/sta...71538977234944

"With much sadness and regret I have submitted my letter of resignation as a Northern Ireland Minister to the Prime Minister. A copy of my letter is attached. It has been a joy and privilege to serve in the Northern Ireland Office and I will always cherish the fondest memories."

Nikki Da Costa apparently resigned - she was Director of Legislative Affairs - a new position created for helping push through legislation relating to Brexit and other areas.

And Dominic Raab has resigned - https://twitter.com/DominicRaab/stat...92019449098241

"Today, I have resigned as Brexit Secretary. I cannot in good conscience support the terms proposed for our deal with the EU. Here is my letter to the PM explaining my reasons, and my enduring respect for her."

Raab going might be curtains for May. What the political landscape will look like in 6 days or 6 weeks from now is anyone's guess tbh. March 29th 2019 looks like a very long way away.

it'll be a cold shower. Without that EU gas supply we won't be able to heat the water.

So he can't support the deal he was in charge of negotiating?

Hopefully he'll spend a bit of his newly free time reading an atlas.

    Re: Legitimate Brexit Betrayal?

EDIT: spacein_vader beat me to it.

2nd EDIT: It's rather ironic that what started as something to prevent the Conservative party ripping itself in two and parliament supposedly being at an impasse with regards to being a member of the EU so the question being put to the public seems to be ending with Conservative party ripping itself in two, parliament being at an impasse, and increased calls for the question to be put back to the public.

    Re: Legitimate Brexit Betrayal?

He wasn't negotiating though, was he? That was one of the other absurdities. May put someone else in to do that job.

EDIT - Or she did it herself. It's a bit unclear - but basically, 2 days after giving Raab the job she said No. 10 would handle negotiations.

    https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/1...o-will-follow/

EDIT 2 - Olly Robbins! That's the name I think. I recall something about that being mentioned at the time - shortly after Raab was appointed. There was frustration because it was a strong remainer in charge of negotiations.

    Re: Legitimate Brexit Betrayal?

Rumor had it he had been sidelined but that raises the question of why he didn't resign earlier because he had been sidelined and what he's been doing all this time if he had.

Because he wanted to see what the result was? Because he had a legitimate position doing other things?

    Re: Legitimate Brexit Betrayal?

Because when you have a seat at the top table you tend to not want to lose it. Especially if they end up doing a decent job, you'd get no credit if you'd walked away. So he skirted on their coat-tails hoping for a good outcome and some glory by proxy, then when he realised it is actually a big mess, he's ducked out in protest because there's no benefit anymore for him by staying in the role.

ie I imagine like most politicians it's ultimately all about personal gain and ego. Any talk of "good for the country" is a usually a smokescreen IMO.

3 wickets down before lunch, it's like watching England!

Not convinced the middle order will be able to save her though.
