    To be a leader?

To be inspiring or leading others to do the same, especially if it is against their nature. I've not heard of him, so maybe a leader in a specialist field? (or perhaps I'm just poorly informed!)

Me. Once I get power. I mean elected. Yes "elected". And then it won't matter either way cos you won't want to disagree with me.

ps does anyone have a spare swivel chair and a white cat?

No, we are talking about leaders, not dictators!

(although leaders can emerge without being formally elected, and dictators may have been good leaders to get the support of the people that put them in power. On the other hand they may just be brutal thugs that lead by intimidation rather than by charisma, respect or competency)

OP is about leaders, not utterly perfect gods of the human race....!!

Leaders lead, either by example or by inspiration. If you can get a whole bunch of people to follow your lead, especially in spite of ^those flaws, you're a great leader.

But as per the OP, this can be in ANY field.
Politics, military, business, musical, educational, charitable, scientific... any field you want.

Glenn Miller was a great band leader, for example... Although I expect you'll pop back with some list of his flaws, how many Jews he killed, how many women he slept with, or how many cows he milked incorrectly...?

Potato Potayto, Leader, Dictator, it's all the same in the end. Remember once in power I get to say what makes a good leader.

Not quite. Once in power, you get to say whatever the handful of ruling elite who put you in that role tell you to say... and they also get to decide what makes a good sniper.

Re: Great Leaders - who are your favourites?

I'm gonna go with a bloke who I have met many times, and who I doubt any of you have ever met (sadly for you)

His name is John Brock and he's now an MBE.

He ... and his energy and enthuisiasm, with his leadership and drive, has taken an knackered old cow-shed of an air craft control tower in Pemobrokshire ....and made it, over decades... an amazing place to visit.
    https://www.carewcheritoncontroltower.co.uk/

I know you've likely never heard of him. But he's a leader. A great leader. A man who, with word and whit, can charm any group of men and women to do good things for the cause he believes in. To maintain a local historical place for poeople to remember the wars and the people who partcipated.
I'm a lucky lad..I've met a million people ... and many are wonderful

But John Brock is a leader. A great leader.

A man who, when the local bypass was being dug, went to see the builders and simply said "if you find anything interesting.. tell me please" and he went back to see them .. and found an air raid bunker. He convinced them to bring it, piece by piece to the contro ltower and to rebvuild it. It's not used weekly for kids to sit learn about the wars.
    https://www.carewcheritoncontroltowe...pembroke-dock/

A man who's charisma ended up with an Avro Anson, and now a building and a restoration team
    https://www.carewcheritoncontroltowe...gets-underway/

It's not just John... but it was.... him and his charisma, and leadership. And now it's the team.

To me... that's a leader. A great and luckily....noble leader. Because not all people with such charisma are so good hearted

Ah, you assume they'll be around long enough to make such plans. Dictator handbook - don't let them settle, ship them off to siberia regularly to keep them on their toes.
