How does this Gumtree Scam work?

Almost instantly after posting an add on gumtree I was messaged by a prospective buyer:-

HI , I will be glad to hear back from you regard your item,if it still available?

The asking price is listed in the add. I'm afraid I am not soliciting my adverts to email addresses so please send her a link and discuss it with her. I am happy to have a conversation on here (gumtree) and show it to you working if you/She is still interested.

It seemed a bit odd; timing, the grammar and the fact the names did not connect. She might get back to me and it could be genuine.....

Do they just want email addresses to spam? I was tempted to use a disposable email.

Sounds like just a door opener. Get you chatting, agree dubious payment methods, refunds, bank scam shortly to follow.

Yeah seen it before, you email them, they tell you they are abroad or another family member best friend is abroad and they need it sent there, then they ask if you accept paypal and how happy they are to pay the delivery fee etc etc
