Massive well done to Sally, and on the award. By the sound of it thoroughly dexerved.

By the way, there's a LOT, in a huge number of areas, that the press are aware of before the public, partly due to 'contacts' but sometimes due to (possibly NDA'd) briefings. Just sayin'.

Brilliant but why publish peoples home addresses?

Yeah I would have had a rather impolite word with them

I completely agree, I'd be highly uncomfortable with them being so specific with the address. If it were me, the most specific I'd be willing to accept would be the city being mentioned.

+1 surely that's a breach under GDPR? Possibly twice if the police/council gave her details to the journalist

Possibly. Unfortunately, I doubt that could be proven.

Also, given even minimal details and a general location, getting exact address details isn't hard. With a name and no location it may, depending on the name, be quite a lot, or not much, harder. Either way, any half-resourceful journalist shouldn't have much difficulty doing it legally.

The disgraceful bit, IMHO, is publishing it, especially weithout permission. After all, name and town would serve the same journalistic purpose, and an exact address adds nothing to the story.

I have NO doubt that a free press is a fundamental necessity to even a sorfa-democracy like we have but .... they also have a long-standing and well-proven habit of total disregard for individual normal peopke and an arrogance born of getting away with it because "normal" people don't have the resources to fight back.

I had some hopes for the recent "phone-hacking" review, but we all saw what a farce a lack of political will turned that into.

The press is largely a law unto itself.
