    A/AS level IT

Didn't know where to post this but here goes. Have to do 5 AS levels yet i've only 4 that I've studied the past 2 years and have to pick from the rest. From what I read its programing, if anyones done it/doing it, do you just need to learn the language of the programs that you use and make programs or is there more to it. Didn't do gcse IT but from looking at the syllabus it seems basic.

Its mainly databases. In year 13 you get to do web design in html, but most people use frontpage which I think is kinda cheating. I dropped it after the first year as I found it extremely boring.

Mate did it, all about databases, linking, excel and what the like.

Stuff like programming is really irrellevent, its all easy if you know what your doing, computing is the subject that requires programming knowledge, but its still basic you dont need to be a good coder unless you get to A2 computing, and degree level.

just to reinforce everything thats been said, im on A2 ICT atm and its very easy indeed, so far the most complex things weve done is creating macros to run queries on access, and that requires only some common sense.

oh in AS level i did some VB coding but thats real easy stuff such as "application.quit" writes itself tbh

Do Computing. It's slightly more interesting than ICT and a good challenge if you're into programming.

A level computing is more about programming than IT which is about using macros in ms word and mail merges and thats about it.

Go for a level computing if your school does it!

I did IT and it was so boring, make sure you do computing if you want to go into that later at university.

Well in my experience i wouldn't bother doing a-level computing or it at school, as quite frankly it was crap. It taught bad practise and i had to unlearn what i learnt at a-level before i could learn what was being taught at degree.

But that may just be my experience.

I've always had a bad opinion of learning IT/Computing at school. My previous IT teacher in Year 9 said I was good enough 'at computers' to do GCSE IT. Only problem was, my school doesn't offer IT as a GCSE.

Also, this teacher's opinion of my computing skills didn't really mean much, seeing as throughout the lesson he would come to me, and ask questions such as...

"She (*points to a girl*) just asked me what picture format she should use in her website, what one do I tell her?!?!?!"

    and...

"How do I make the bar thing split into two in Excel?!?!?"

    New Sig on the Way...
