Challenge .... find a bigger idiot
Okay, he's the idea.
Find a bigger idiot.
This came about because I read this and thought .... this bloke is a world-class moron.
A few days after 20 people were shot dead in a Walmart in El Paso, this idiot walks into a Walmart in Missouri, wearing body armour and

So .... he 's been charged with making a terririst threat and, if convicted, faces up to $10k fine and four years in the pokey.

So, I think we can agree he's a contender for idiot-of-the-year ..... unless you can find a bigger idiot. :D
Re: Challenge .... find a bigger idiot
Oh, and this is an "idiot" thread, not a gun-control thread. Please don't drag it off-course.
Re: Challenge .... find a bigger idiot
Tidied up, please lets leave politics out of this one eh ? :)
Re: Challenge .... find a bigger idiot
can't help but think that if he had been a person of darker ethnicity then he wouldn't be alive to tell his story.
As for finding a bigger idiot, right now I think that country is full of candidates, so I'd refer you to the Darwin awards and also to the people that narrowly missed out on them by not actually dying. The guy that decided to wash his testicles in the golf ball washing machine at a country club is definitely a candidate.

....
I'm not so sure, in this case. After all, he was held at gunpoint by an off-duty fire-fighter, until poice arrived. An armed civilian has considerably less leeway for using deadly force than a cop, and having had him held by that civilian, it'd take balls for cops to shoot him, had he been "darker", given that he was already under control.
I get your point, but I'm not sure it holds in this case.
It does, however, show one pretty smart fire-fighter, just to make the idiot's iidiocy stand out even more.

I suggest for a balanced view on this that you might look up a guy called Donut Operator on Youtube. He looks at these stories and then pulls the body cam footage and puts them in context. He has some excellent demonstrations around why US cops go for guns over tasers, he shows the facts then gives his opinion but then opens it up for discussion in the comments and also usually goes on streaming after publishing so as to discuss it. It's astonishing how when put in context, these few seconds of video you see on Farcebook often come down to someone who was given multiple chances and carried on trying to kill the cops. The best part about this guy is when it's wrong, he calls it and says it's totally wrong. He goes into it with an open mind but always pulls the full source material before making any comments. There was one where the guy was shot to death on the ground with two cops on him and the video published only those few seconds. The full body cam footage showed that he had a gun down his trousers and was reaching for it and the cops spent ages trying to pry his hands off the gun. It was only when he was about to pull it out and shoot them that the cop went for the only weapon he could use which was his gun. It was horrific for all concerned but the guy did have a loaded gun and was trying to kill the cops. What was published looked outrageous but it was the last resort left to them and the camera footage shows that clearly. The other thing about "unarmed" man is often that they were unarmed but trying to acquire an officer's weapon.
As I say, definitely worth a watch but make sure no kids are around as there are shootings, albeit blurred.
As for idiocy.... I present myself for judgement.
The worst with a firearm is the guy who had an SMG (Army) and was under full, 1:1 instruction. His section were all next to him awaiting their turn. The exercise was to load, fire and make safe the fully automatic weapon under full instruction. He inserted the magazine (likely 30 rounds) whilst pointing the weapon down range from the hip. He then chambered a round and removed the safety. He then turned around with the weapon still at his hip to face the Sergeant and the rest of his section with the phrase "what do I do now, SAAARRRGE?" The reply was that he should place the weapon on the ground and step back. He was escorted off the range and never seen or heard from again.
Second stupidist thing with a gun was someone who decided to be an arse with MY GUN. He took it, not checking it was clear and went and pointed it at his sister's head at a range of about ain inch. I was unamused and never let him near one of my guns ever again.
The idiocy of the guy in the OP is in no doubt however, I suspect he was doing a 2nd amendment audit whereby he was following the law and doing an open carry which was perfectly legal in his state. Stupid, yes. Illegal, no. Unfortunately, mass shootings (defined as 4 or more people being shot) are pretty routine in the US. Mostly they're with pistols and don't get reported. The ones that do get news coverage are the ones with "assault" rifles as it's part of the current narrative. It's very sad but the gangs are already in place, the guns they are are usually illegally obtained anyway and if you ban the guns then the criminals will still keep theirs and those who don't have one will just use knives.
/ramble.

There's a lot more context to that idea. A hunter, out in the wild is open carrying, and isn't going to be prosecuted. A guy carrying a concealed firearm in Walmart, who reaches for the Jumbo size bag of M&M's on the bottom shelf and Karen sees his firearm isn't going to be prosecuted. Seeing people open carrying a pistol really isn't uncommon in many parts of the US, including at Walmart. But a guy tooled up in body armor and carrying a rifle is probably intending to scare people. That intent would be menacing, and would be illegal. It's like shouting 'Fire' in a crowded theatre.
Personally, I choose to carry a concealed firearm, like any normal person.
Also, there's a lengthy discussion of mass shootings, but they certainly aren't routine. You're more likely to be hit by a train. Sadly the media likes to add every drug deal gone wrong and domestic tragedy in to the same 'mass shooting' pile just to make the recent Walmart shooting sound like a daily occurrence. It's not. The US currently has the lowest violent crime rate in decades.

*COUGH*
How about that chap in Manchester who went to pick up his Lamborghini from the police (who had seized it as it was uninsured,) in another Lambo, also uninsured, which they also promptly seized?

I would submit anyone who does one of these 'law audit' things to test the cops.
Whether it's a barely perceptible technicality on the legality of your open carry firearm, to riding your motorcycle like a bell but in a technically legal fashion, to shooting a Welshman entering the city of Leeds after dark, to walking naked backwards down the main thoroughfare, to whatever other stupidity these people try... usually while bleating about their superior knowledge of the law.
Most of the time the cops don't give a toss about the nuances of law - They've been called by people who are panicked or upset by your actions and are here to deal with some kind of disturbance. Most of the time they arrive at these calls to find a serious threat, so when they see you flaunting yourself and shouting about your rights like that, they'll be expecting trouble... so most of the time they will treat you like all the genuine nutters.
I've seen some Canadian officers deal exceptionally well and politely with such a situation before and they were FAR more polite than the [censored] who was "auditing" them... but even they still had 7 or 8 armed officers turn up to deal with it!!
Basically these people are baiting and purposely pushing cops, trying to be smartarses and then whining when the cops get heavy handed. Stupid, stupid, stupid, time wasting idiots, who are usually whining about police not dealing with more serious crimes... !

Well, at least he had about 7 years to think about what he did wrong.

Re: Challenge .... find a bigger idiot
My first thought turned to <insert leading politician of your preference> but then realised they're not idiots, they're intentionally sneaky, deceitful, and down-right contemptible (in at least a few cases). I can't actually think of any better examples of 'idiots' than the ones mentioned above.
As for the man in the OP, hopefully getting stopped by an armed civilian both sets his mind at ease as to his inquiry, and also teaches him a bit of wisdom.
Re: Challenge .... find a bigger idiot
I used to work in a Tesco Petrol Station many years ago, we had some classics..
Woman drove in collided with a pump, with enough force to completely rip the front cover off. I go out to check everything asn she says 'Your pump hit my car...' :shocked2:
Wasn't there a case recently of a drug dealer calling the Boys in Blue to complain one of his 'customers' had made off without paying?
