Ebay, FreeAds and Facebook Marketplace - all seem broken now.

I was selling something on ebay.. the person then could'nt pay because they were waiting on someone else paying for something they'd sold.
felt like a house chain, waited a few days... silence.. no reply.
relisted.. sold again... utter silence. No payment nothing.

listed something else, more value, sold..... couldn't pay until month end... then nothing.. silence now.

Sold something on Facebook Marketplace. Person didn't arrive on the date and messaged they be there 2 days later. Stayed in for them.. they were an hour late.. and had no money with them. No cahs at all. They offered to pay by bank transfer on their mobile.. which was flat. And then expected me to let them take it and pay later! Then got the arse that I didn't trust them. Door closed, life moved on

Saw something on FreeAds, screen shot to remember it, contacted them to see it, went up £50 while I was driving there.....

Same happened again on seperate item... screen shot... contact made.. item went up in price.

Maybe you have just been unlucky?

Freecycle is free things? Was it free then they decided to charge?

Ebay I have had a couple of issues on but they have changed their rules now so anyone that doesn't pay in 48 hours is automatically reported for non payment, not sure what that actually does though.

Don't use Facebook so can't comment there.

This has unfortunately been my experience for the past 10 years, and steadily got worse. Originally it would be 1/5 people over time it's increased to 4/5. People are just messers, I think they get off on it.

I sold something on eBay recently for collection only buyer kept saying she was on her way, I'd wait and wait but no show. Got a message next day to say sorry and this kept happening for weeks, then nothing at all for a further 2 weeks as it transpired she buggered off on holiday... Eventually she did collect it.

While I could have left her negative feedback, I thought for the sake of getting one myself I left her a sarcastic 'she was amazing, so helpful' type of message.

Unless people are your immediate friends, nobody has respect for one another any more.
No common courtesy decency or anything these days. It seems everyone's out for an argument like Ronnie Pickering. Everyone is living a mid life crysis from the day they're born.

Thinking of potential ways around this, maybe Ebay feedback should be anonymised, and not be made public immediately. Maybe with a random delay period or two to six weeks so the other person cannot confirm who left the feedback and retaliate.

Yea, I've had so much tech that I've sold and people have been vicious. sold a gen1 chromecast, guy said he hadn't received it (no help of ebay). Then I've been scammed when buying a motorbike, the guy put a different redge plate on it. Got my money back for that one though, thanks paypal. Anyway, tech wise i just sell to cex now and for everything else, its stock pilled for a carboot on the east lancs

That sounds like a series or horrible experiences Zak33 and PC-LAD, sorry to hear you've had to go through them.

I can't say anything of selling experience as I tend to be a buyer only (and only on eBay from those platforms mentioned), and I have had the scam experience as a buyer once years ago with a laptop, but I got most of it refunded by PayPal. I've never tried to buy a vehicle from an online listing.

As a buyer however, I would never commit to buying something if I didn't have the funds to pay for it immediately, so the fact that so many people acted in that way, wasting so much time, baffles me - especially the one who had the gall to show up 2 days and an hour late, without cash, and expected to be trusted in taking the item and paying later.

I am disgusted by the failures to stick to the already agreed price and pushing up the price in the travel time too. If I agreed to sell something, I'd treat the deal like I'd want to be treated as a buyer - fairly.

I'm sure we can't be the only people who would deal fairly with others, so why there appears to be so many trying to pull something is something that I don't understand the motivations of.

My experience on ebay has been a little mixed but mostly positive.
I sold a number of console games a few years ago and had nothing but trouble with it.
But, i've used ebay quite a lot since to sell a number of items, including some watches costing a few hundred and all went through with no problem.

I'd still use ebay going forwards.

I'm not sure if issues with ebay are more prevelant than they were, or if it's just the perception of it????

Simple. More and more scummers are gaining access to the internet every day.

While I have no doubt a lot of that goes on, it's not all like that.

I don't buy much (or sell anything) online, but one of my last purchases was a pretty high-end phito printer. I restricted my search to about 20 miles and, to my surprise, one came up. No reserve. I bid, and nobody else did.

These machines were going for around £75-£100, no working, for parts.

I arranged to collect, and not only did thus prove to be a fully working machine, but when I got there, the seller made me a cuppa, gave me a collection of spare leads, etc, and several unopened cartridges worth aboyt £20 each, and wouldn't even take the nominal £1 or whatever it was for the solo bid. Said he was happy just to see it go to a keen user and get proper usage, because otherwise, it would have ended up in landfill.

Still, I paid that favour on later, doing much the same with a car, to see it go to a caring home, rather than a more ignominious end.

There are some good ones out there, Zak. They just seem to be a minority.

I bought a knock-off S5 for a too good to be true price at the time, I remember the kid brought it to me with battery at 5%. He had to ask a shop if they would charge it for him just to get the screen on. Screen didn't look that great for a newly released device, kid was like..oh yeah it's trying to conserve battery. I've bought phones since which turned out alright and lasted years. But I would never buy anything secondhand off anyone if the battery isn't fully charged or near enough.

I've sold a few things, and sold to people who were a good fit for it.
