How long before Trump get's de-throned?

How long can the nonsense go on?

Now I can see a Government using Aid as a negotiation piece.. that's what foreign trade and relations are, for the overal benefit of both Nations... but not to try to belittle your political enemy at the cost of a nation's potential assistance.

And now you're on a list...

Honestly I think Trump will survive this, and be reelected next year.

He shouldn't, I mean, this is obviously wrong. But right and wrong don't apply to US politics. Impeachment requires support of, most importantly, the Senate. That's not going to happen. Meanwhile many Democrat Congressmen are on shaky ground when it comes to re-election, and standing against Trump would be an election losing vote.

That's appropriately subtle. The Clinton's prefer their enemies to shoot themselves twice in the head. Or strangle themselves in a jail cell when the guards have wandered off and the cameras don't work...

I agree Trump will be re-elected. Without universal healthcare, the US is a mess of inequality, while average income is higher perhaps twice that of the UK ... sigh.

So there's a lot of randomness to the media and views are not all that err sane when it comes to politics. Thats MHO to be clear.

    Or both.

As for Trump, the bloke has one saving grace - he isn't a politician. From there, it's downhill, his biggest problem being he's Donald Trump.

Will impeachment work? Dunno, but I rather hope so.

Next election? Again, dunno, but an important factor will be who his opponent is. One strong factor last time, at least among US-voting friends and family was that he wasn't Clinton.

Personally I loathed him long before he stood for Pres, and no doubt will long after he no longer is, however and whenever that happens.

But then, I was no Obama fan either, when elected, and even less so after his reign. Bush Senior? Not much. Shrub? Don't get me started. Reagan? Hmmm, maybe. Carter, Nixon, Lyndon B, etc ....well, we have to go back quite a way to find one I have much time for. Same for British PMs.

What do they all have in common?

Put it this way, the major flaw with senior political offices is they're (nearly) always occupied by politicians, and they, in my view, rank somewhere around scammers and child-abusers.

Though now that I mention it, I can see some simila ...... arghh.

    /thud.

Re: How long before Trump get's de-throned?

For me, the entire Trump presidency has played out like a very long, high stakes Fawlty Towers episode. Starts out with some (relatively) minor disputes/indiscretions/lies but because the main character is singularly incapable of losing face each of these has to be desperately countered/covered up with a bigger one.

We're now at the point where all sense of proportion has been lost and the only thing that matters is one constant game of whack-a-mole. A hotel (or country) to run? Not now, Sybil...

/\ Saracen is right... they are genuinely all the same.

however, in this case, it was verging on childish abuse of power and influence.

I think what I dislike above all, about Trump, is that he just sees it all as a way of having an even larger ego than ever before. He seems to have no sense of .... right or honour. He just sees everything as another business to run, and in the short term that works with most things, but in the long term, the lack of diplomacy always always costs more than was made in the short term.

I'm going to look back at some Simpsons episodes from about 10 years ago to see how it's going to play out.

Re: How long before Trump get's de-throned?

With the Republican in charge of the senate, everything I've read cast doubt that the impeachment will get anywhere.

As for the re-election, I am clearly out of sync with what the majority think so my belief that he is un-relectable count for nothing. I mean, I thought he was un-electable in the first place (and the majority couldn't have voted for the B-word), and look what that's got me.

The plus side is that 1-2 decades ago, I really struggled to decide -where- I want to end up settling in the long term. Last couple of years has seen me striking off the list and the list is getting more manageable (shrunk a little too much too quickly for my comfort if anything).

Trump won because he wasn't a politician, IMHO..
People globally have been screwed over by politicians for ever and given the choice of a politician or someone (anyone) else they'd not vote for the politician...

Lot of truth in that. It was a major factor, IMHO.

So was that he professed to represent the interests of a substantial segment of the community that, rightly or wrongly, considers itself largely ignored, or tsken for granted, by decades of conventional 2-party politicians.

It's been tried before, too. Ross Perot, for instance. The difference being that Trump pulled it off.

And from what I can make out, that segment still support him, suggesting that either he's coming through for them, or at least he has them believing he is.

He's very successfully played the "not like the rest" card. It may still work next election.

Ukraine did elect a former comedian...

Not like the rest is fine and all, but you can do worse than bad, and though it seems that a large portion of the American population disagree with me, Trump isn't exactly "Making America great again".

Though I am curious how the trade war with China will pan out in the end (I don't think they've been a president willing to go there so far), economically, and it's not like I don't have my reservations with the increasingly assertive China, this is a policy a lose-lose policy, with the only question being, which side will lose more. And it's impact of a trade war with the two largest economy in the world won't be limited to just those two countries.

This is very true, and is one thing that Trump should get some credit for. China is suffering, and terrified that the HKG civil unrest will spread to the mainland, which is likely if they start seeing and economic hardship. People in the US care more about the next season of Pop Idol, and will rage on the internet either way. Simply recognising the problem China poses is a significant step beyond previous Presidents.

On other issues, Trump has largely blustered and behaved like a senile lunatic while not actually changing much. He's also been far more reluctant to commit the US Military in to intervening in foreign wars than either of the last two Presidents, although that's a long way from ending the ongoing wars..
