BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
Well good people of HEXUS, here's your chance to brag/sob, laugh or howl at the moon
Did you find a true Bargain? It's Cyber Monday.. are you about to click the Big BUY button?
Did you find a DEAL??
Vote now and discuss without exploding in excitement or outrage... and no sobbing in the corner ;)
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
How do I vote (no btw). Generally it was the same old stuff and the I don't think prices did not seem to have changed either.
Just seen the voting button :surprised:
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
I found a couple of bits for my new build but that was mostly taking advantage of coupon codes and introductory new account offers, only thing that seemed genuinely reduced was a case for £12 that will do for sticking my old build in for use as an emulator.
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
I actually found a pair of walking boots that were genuinely discounted. Cheap enough to cause the brand's website to freeze .. and you know it's good value when it keeps crashing ;)
Anyway.. i DID find a deal :) and after 3 attempts I got the order in.
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
If you'd have also put a "Not looking tbh..." option, that would have been my vote.

Ahh...doesn't count.. if the HEXUS Squirrel isn't looking for a deal then no deal would be relevant ;)
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
I did find a deal, on some trainers I'd been thinking about getting anyway, but the rest just seemed to be inflation of rrp to make it look like you're getting a better deal than you actually are.
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
I did, I managed to pick up a beautiful Transparent Green RGR5220M MIJ Ibanez guitar on Saturday - advertised as 20% off for black Friday but was actually 10% off when you look at the price history etc (I have been tracking it).
Thats a decent £160 saving, so i'm really happy with it :)
I bought a microwave too that was £10 off, but advertised as £99 off....
Lots of good deals to be had but you just need to be careful, as most are not as good as they appear. The general rule still applies that if you were going to buy it anyway then an extra 10% off or so is really nice.
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
Still looking, probs going to look at a few more Amazon devices, maybe a Show and an Echo, as well as an additional Blink camera, haven't really decided..
Should probably get something Christmas related..
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
I voted for "saw a few things" but it was touch 'n' go with complete waste of time.
Declaration of scope - I very rarely buy online, and to do so it would need to be either a very good deal indeed, or something I just can't get locally. So, I did little more than a quick rummage online - and I undersrand that, by virtue of that, I'm kinda missing the point.
I did, however, visit several large national chains in person specifically on Black Friday.
Of the relatively few things I explicitly looked for, they either weren't on sale at all, or weren't significantly different (i.e. maybe £3 off a £200 item) and in either case, I'm not going to get overly excited.
On things I wasn't specifically looking for, absolutely nothing fell into the "Wow, what a deal, at that price I'm grabbing one" category.
It was more "Ho hum, whatever. Boring".
So, my conclusion, at least on what I saw is that while the original Black Friday had some real good deals, when it was (primarily) one company stealing a trick on unprepared rivals, now it's a ho-hum pointless marketing stunt they all try and I've yet to see or even hear of any really good deals. So sure, if you want XYZ anyway and it's a few quid more off than normal, great.
But any real deals IMHO, will come post-New Year when companies are trying to wring the last dregs of profit out of the Christmas bumper-buying frenzy, and especially if someone has overstocked and undersold something I actually want.
No surprises if I say I'm not exactly panting with excitement and holding my breath, though.
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
Amazon had some good deals if you hunted around; got a pair of Levi 501 for £21, Columbia coat at lowest price ever on 3camels - £100 off.
Skinny tan had a sale, down to £10/bottle (for the wife!)
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
With the help of Camel Camel Camel I bought a hoover, dropped by £150 so went ahead with it. Was the cheapest the product had been having monitored it for some months. Was happy with that.
Also bought an AKRacing fabric chair. Somewhere between £80/100 off.
Any other things I wanted were not reduced so will have to wait 'til after Christmas for that.
I've never not found a good deal on something. I guess it depends if you're in the market and what you're in the market for.
Re: BLACK FRIDAY / CYBER MONDAY - did you find a deal?
Kinda saw a few things, but they were kinda needless junk and I need to save my money for buying other people Xmas pressies... I already bought myself two watches this month, which was a bit excessive and impulsive.

Perhaps, but with two caveats :-
1) There's a difference between buying something because it's a good deal, and finding something you wanted anyway, which happens to be on a good deal.
2) Personally, I don't (any more) go looking for things to buy. So "hunting around" doesn't take me long, as I know what I'm after.
Perhaps it's my age, but in the majority of cases, if I want it I've already got it. If I'm not wanting it already, it needs to be a really good deal to tempt me - essentially, something I'd like, but not at what it usually costs and it'll need to be a lot, lot cheaper to tempt me.
And then it very much depends what it is. A high-end watch at £3k instead of £10k would tempt me if, and only if, it's one that I'd really like but not at the £10k it's normally at. That is to say, price is what's stopped me so far. But a £1200 smartphone at £400 wouldn't tempt me at all because I wouldn't spend £400 on a smartphone under any circumstances. And no, for anybody wondering, I wouldn't but it at £400 to resell. To much mucking about.
What a "deal" is depends on what you value.
For instance, unless they're a lot cheaper than they used to be as standard, £21 for 501s is probably a great deal if you want them. But it's still about double what I pay in a supermarket and I don't care if people see me wearing supermarket jeans.
Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah but, on average, each of the new watches cost me 21 times what my last two cost... That's the excessive part, as well as doing it right when I should have been spending money on other people!
