    It's Budget time!!!

Is Rishi gonna open the coffers wide and splash loads of cash?

Bank of England cut interest rates to 0.25% today

Rumours are of companies not having to pay the VAT from their sales for a delayed period, to cash folow them through Covid19 and the global meltdown.

    What's gonna transpire then?

    Re: It's Budget time!!!

Well.. it was much like watching Gordon Brown spend his way to heaven!

The most non Conservative budget I've seen for... well maybe ever.

They smashed a lot of stuff through that will help lots of people and I'm guessing it will all be paid for by borrowing and by not sending money to Europe.

National Insurance threshold moved up quite a lot, meaning most people pay about £8.60 per month less from next month. That's quite generous in itself.. that's a mobile sim payment, or enough bread cheese and butter to make sandwichs for a month of packed lunches.
Small businesses have a payment holiday all year from paying rates (I'll not go into detail as if it affects you you likely already know) but that can only help as the high street is likely to be empty for a few weeks!
Pubs got some quite sensible sized help, and also tax on booze didn't go up.
Plans to decentralise parts fo government, and have offices around the country
Red diesel tax is only at 11% and normal is 58% , and he's gonna scrub that on some industry ( I think mainly construction) but the farmers and fishermen are unnaffected

And there was an odd mixed message about the environment generally.

Carbon capture plants around the UK, but loads more roads too. No fuel duty rise, but in 2 years time electricity won't get rises where other fuels will.

Felt a bit like Donald Trump CO2 spending his way to power....

    Thoughts ?

Mostly by borrowing afaik, but lets not bring the brexit debate back into this

It was a very weird budget imo, and not very "conservative" at all. Felt like a continuation of the current mass panic & overreaction that we're seeing. Some very silly things imo, like freezing duty on petrol at a time when climate change is so high on the agenda, or the white elephant tunnel proposed under Stonehenge.

It is what it is, but doesn't seem like a tory budget and certainly doesn't seem the best way to spend what limited money we don't have, when we're walking into the biggest few years of economic uncertainty in years!

Agree i don't get why that stone henge thing has come back up AGAIN.
It's been knocked back loads of times... and now that the StoneHenge vistors centre is nowhere near it, so you walk towards the Henge on the original path, which works a treat... I see no reason for the tunnel in any way. The traffic isn't a "thing" now

I don't understand why they don't just move it. They could use the opportunity to straighten it up and replace some of the worn stones.
