obviously there's a lot of bad things going on at the moment, so wondering about positive aspects of the current situation. whilst working from home, you have that added time that would otherwise be spent commuting. pubs, clubs, gyms, cinemas all sorts of things are closed, so you can't spend your time there, and you are supposed to avoid social contact
a lot of people may initially at least turn to netflix and not the most healthy of options initially, but as time goes on, cabin fever may kick in more. so i was wondering what ideas people had to use the extra time in a positive way
for example, that thing that shirts are hanging on in the spare room that you were going to use to get fit, is anyone going to start using the keep fit bike or gear that was used for the first week and you gave up on? and if you do, are you normally an active gym goer, or turning to this because you aren't getting that little bit of activity by walking to the bus/train/shops etc?
or are you going to learn to play that guitar lying around? or learn something else new and useful, and if so what, and how are you going to learn it? youtube/internet? learn photoshop or SQL or study for a qualification?
instead of sitting getting fatter and drinking more, with the food situation, maybe you plan to lose a bit weight, maybe drink less or give up drinking, or go veggie or vegan instead of pigging out on pizza and coke?
and how will you keep in touch with friends? will you plan to meet them somewhere, and do something, if so what activities? what about dating? i saw on the bbc news site someone having a date over webcam. how will single people try and meet someone if pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants and cinemas are closed? go for a walk in the park?
i try to see things in that for everything bad, there's usually some kind of flip side where someone benefits in some way even the worst of things, even if most people suffer. and if people have good ideas and share them then others can maybe benefit too
as food runs out and is harder to get, i'll turn to the things in the cupboard i bought cheap as backup food, and as the good food gets scare and wine and booze gets scarce or more expensive i'll drink and eat less and try and lose weight and get fitter. may turn to the excersize bike too. but it will take a few days of getting used to the situation and shaking off old habits to get there. right now i'm pigging out on netflix and catching up with tv shows etc as there's been a deluge of them, but once that's out the way i'll get around to reading some of the piles of books i've bought and never played, and start using my turntables again and play some of the mountains of vinyl i've bought (i've been buying records since before CDs and never stopped). i've been overloaded with work the past couple of years so this will be my chance to try and catch up on life a bit with the extra time. i spend about 3 full days a month commuting normally. when you consider you sleep for 8 hours a night, that's a lot of extra time back in my hands right there. it's like having an extra week of awake time to do things. plus it's easier to clean and do laundry and stuff in between working from home
