Interesting observations from "Stay Home" and social distancing

Hello people

The sky is empty. Utterly empty. I am seeing no aircraft.
The car traffic is minimal. A few key workers are driving to and fro, and I see medical assistance/care workers at a few doors as usual.


The dustbin teams were collecting today - the same lad I see every week collecting the food waste bins- today for the first day his bin was over flowing. It's never even half full

I get it -people are at home eating more than at work.... but I do hope.. with all my heart.. that it wasn't a large increase in food waste

What are you observations on things that are.. subtly different?

Also ,people were panic buying perishable goods - on another forum someone was saying councils were have noticably more food waste to handle now.

I get cleared direct to stuff a lot more. Radio is quieter. Freight hubs busier. Light loads, but huge bulk out of Asia. Medical supplies don't weigh much.

Its annoying for me,as older folk are finding it hard to get food deliveries to them as younger people took up slots they didn't need. I don't know if it is true,but I heard people were booking multiple slots on the same week,to horde more food. The new list of 1.5 million vulnerable people is helping,but a lot of older folk won't be on it. Just to see food thrown away is bad at the worst of times,but in light of people who can't leave the house finding it hard to get,its tragic!

Cat it's not quite true, and most places SFAIK have prevented that kind of multiple slot shenanigans. We can't book next delivery until after the first has been delivered.

A few weeks ago when there were less restrictions people were apparently booking multiple slots together,sometimes weeks ahead is what I heard. Its why they have had to start cutting down the booking period and implemented restrictions. Probably the same with Tesco,etc limiting items to 80.

you kidding me? so the idiots over brought and are now just chucking it out? FFS I'd make the she-its eat it all. We're having to plan every meal carefully as we're not sure when we'll next get certain items and it's because these cretins can't understand the concept of take only what you need. ARGHGHGHGHGHGHG

Bins full of bread etc.

On a small scale I'm finding that hard to manage with a family of 4.

Before the plague struck we did a big weekly shop where I bought a loaf of bread, and half way through the week we bought another loaf and some milk in a top up shop as the first one had gone.
I don't really have the freezer space to freeze bread and milk, but I don't want to go out for a top-up shop. I would make bread mid-week, but I can't buy flour for the bread machine. If I buy two loaves in the weekly shop, the second one will go moldy before we eat it.

So it could be if people are genuinely trying their best they still end up throwing extra food out from trying to avoid going to the shops.

By and large, mostly amazed how much has stayed the same.

I'm going to smaller shops more often rather than go to a large supermarket.
But, still going to work so most of the routine is unaffected.
