    50 Years ago today

Three men locked up for a week were about to find out whether they would ever see their families again

    Apollo 13 in realtime

Watching the final hours of the mission on TV is one of my earliest clear memories.

Probably the most sphincter winking reboot in history.

    SPLASHDOWN!

I have been listening to this in real time all day.

The understated radio chatter just adds to the drama.

Really noticing how journalism has changed.

Amazing how a recording of an event 50 years ago, that I know perfectly well how it ends, still manages to stir the same emotions.

    Enjoyed it a lot.
