    Breakfast

This might be an unpopular opinion but it needs to be said.

Porridge might just be the best breakfast there is.

I like mine made quite thick with half milk, half water and a dash of salt.
Throw in some raisins while cooking, maybe some seeds, and then afterwards add some honey and cinnamon, maybe even nutmeg. Mix it all in. And if feeling extravagant some double cream on top.

    Gorgeous!

    And it's healthy too.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

A full English is nice, but not all the time. Toast is alright but dull.

    Porridge, you're the best!

Oh and Muesli you're a winner too.

I'm partial to a little Bubble and Squeak...

Brown sugar is my Porridge additive of choice, but just a little and not mixed in, so some is sweet and some not...

    Re: Breakfast

Has enough time past that we can engage in some post-hipster irony and suggest smashed avocado and lime juice, chilli flakes and a couple of thin slices of halloumi on grilled sourdough?

    Thought not.

    Eggs! Can't go wrong really.

Kipper is awesome - no problem with smells if isolating

Kedgeree for something a bit more filling.

The granola flavour, crunchiness and the tang of the yogurt are an awesome combo but let's be honest, it's not breakfast, it's a snack.

You can't just drop 'eggs like some bomb from above. That's an ingredient, not a breakfast. We need details man, details!

It's breakfast in my house! And you buy granola in the breakfast aisle at the supermarket.

    Re: Breakfast

So many great breakfast foods....where do you start!

Porridge is indeed king of the "not cold but also not fried/grilled" ones imo, if made properly. I am not a fan of the instant stuff, although i do have a few packets as backup if running late for work..its passable.

But then you have cereals - currently im on a shreddies craze but last month it was crunchy nut...or if i'm feeling flash (and unhealthy) some alpen red or worse (better?) some of the jordans muesli..

but, as nice as they all are (and, typically what I eat).....I still prefer a proper cooked breakfast. Ideally grilled but fried can work too.

CHEAP sausages, max pork content of 40%, ideally lower. Anything higher doesn't count.
    Back bacon
Hash browns (or if you are stateside, TaterTots are a good compromise)
    Beans
    1/2 grilled Tomato
    Black puddling
    Haggis
    Poached egg
    Toast & Jam

    Now i'm hungry again. grr.

    Re: Breakfast

    I do overnight neusli.

My local Organic place sells Special Vine and Cranberry Meausli, 5kg bags, so I use a half cup of that, mixed with a half cup of Lidl Tropical Granola for crunch, add my lactose freee milk and leave it to soak overnight. In the morning I add my five a day fresh fruit, usually strawberries, blueberries a fresh fig, mango, graps and when I can afford them, raspberries. Its a HUGE dishful by the time Im done and it sets me up for most of the day. I dont often do lunch after this
    Cheers, David

Not if you can't get to a dentist rn it doesn't. Breakfast and every other meal is currently whatever you can't break a tooth on.

If you had to eat just one breakfast every day for an entire year, which would you choose?

That does sound good! I did the overnight muesli thing once and it was pretty good, but nowhere near as fancy as the one you've described. All that fruit can get a bit expensive though. The cheapness of oats is one more thing in favour of porridge, but if I can get blueberries I like to add those too.

Mixed fruits and berries are definitely a plus for most cereal combinations, at least in my house!

I will say that cooked porridge does require more time than other cereal-based breakfasts, but it's worth it.

Flavour & texture I can't stand the sausages that are made with 80%+ pork - it's not what I think of as a sausage and they tend to taste far too meaty.
I prefer proper british bangers, the kind that are not even allowed to be called sausages Plenty of fat, plenty of spice, a good helping of MRM & sinew...tasty.

It's what I was brought up on (along with Potted Beef sandwiches & Spam/egg sandwiches...mmmm) and some flavours never leave you.

I'm not adverse to a bit of haggis on my breakfast plate too, but its really hard to find good haggis south of the border!

edit: I remember there were several food programmes about 10 years ago which focussed on MRM in particular and "where you food comes from" where they did several tests with sausages - making them with 20/40/80% meat content, and then tested them on the public. Not at all a scientific process, but by far and away the most popular were the 20 and 40%....until people were shown what goes into them, then the trend immediately swung to the 80%. Just interesting

It's also one of the most logical breakfasts to have in a lockdown- you can make it with water,as you don't need to use milk, and it has a long shelf-life. You don't need to refrigerate it either.

    Re: Breakfast

    The King asked
    The Queen, and
    The Queen asked
    The Dairymaid:
"Could we have some butter for
    The Royal slice of bread?"
    The Queen asked the Dairymaid,
    The Dairymaid
    Said, "Certainly,
I'll go and tell the cow
    Now
    Before she goes to bed."

    The Dairymaid
    She curtsied,
    And went and told
    The Alderney:
    "Don't forget the butter for
    The Royal slice of bread."
    The Alderney
    Said sleepily:
    "You'd better tell
    His Majesty
    That many people nowadays
    Like marmalade
    Instead."

    The Dairymaid
    Said, "Fancy!"
    And went to
    Her Majesty.
She curtsied to the Queen, and
    She turned a little red:
    "Excuse me,
    Your Majesty,
    For taking of
    The liberty,
    But marmalade is tasty, if
    It's very
    Thickly
    Spread."

    The Queen said
    "Oh!:
    And went to
    His Majesty:
    "Talking of the butter for
    The royal slice of bread,
    Many people
    Think that
    Marmalade
    Is nicer.
Would you like to try a little
    Marmalade
    Instead?"

    The King said,
    "Bother!"
    And then he said,
    "Oh, deary me!"
The King sobbed, "Oh, deary me!"
    And went back to bed.
    "Nobody,"
    He whimpered,
    "Could call me
    A fussy man;
    I only want
    A little bit
    Of butter for
    My bread!"

    The Queen said,
    "There, there!"
    And went to
    The Dairymaid.
    The Dairymaid
    Said, "There, there!"
    And went to the shed.
    The cow said,
    "There, there!
    I didn't really
    Mean it;
    Here's milk for his porringer,
    And butter for his bread."

    The Queen took
    The butter
    And brought it to
    His Majesty;
    The King said,
    "Butter, eh?"
    And bounced out of bed.
    "Nobody," he said,
    As he kissed her
    Tenderly,
    "Nobody," he said,
As he slid down the banisters,
    "Nobody,
    My darling,
    Could call me
    A fussy man -
    BUT
I do like a little bit of butter to my bread!"
