All good thanks, I'm one of the lucky (I think?) ones that has been able to continue working throughout this pandemic, although from home.

finally back into the office huh? I reckon the chair has been missing you. It must be good to get revolving again!
Haha, oh the days of being a poor college student. Office now = home and possibly on a permanent basis too.

    missed you;-)

Think I'd have preferred the squeeze tbh...

Especially when they talk nasty politics
If I'm being honest, this was one of the reasons (among some personal / work stuff) I left. When I joined Hexus it was for the technical help, the banter and the discussions, whether people agreed or not, to me was irrelevant, seeing people discuss things civilly from differing points of view was interesting. Seeing threads descending into people having petty digs at each other, or simply being insulting, veiled or not, between both new and long standing members was making it feel more like a chore visiting the forums. Simply put, that isn't why I joined Hexus and was a million miles away from the community that I joined and grew to love, quirky users included.

With things at work / home effecting my mental health and then seeing the negativity on Hexus, I made the decision to cut out the easiest thing at the time.

Bit deep, but there we go.

Thanks for the warm welcome back though. Will see how things go from here out

I don't come on Hexus for petty political points scoring. I screen this usually by scrolling right to the end of the thread and seeing what the latest post is. If it's some bitter fight or has the word "BREXIT!" in it, I just press back these days. If it's a fairly passionate discussion with different points of view, that's all well and good.

When it gets personal or someone seems to think they are better than other people because of their personal or political views, I just turn away.

I do find it amusing that the "lockdown" thread was locked down.

Now, for the following reasons you are all bitter and hateful people who are morally inferior to myself and, by extension, anyone who agrees with me....

I couldn't agree more, though I guess I'm parly to blame. I love proper discussions, but to get that requires two things :-

    1) People that hold, or at leaat will argue (*) a different view, AND ....
    2) Will do it politely.

But you can only be insulted just so many times before you bite back.

It's a large part of why I stood down as an admin. As an admin, I got fed up with constantly slapping down rude remarks, and/or banning. Now, I can just walk away ... or use the Ignore feature which wasn't an option as an admin.

There have been so many really good debates over the years between those with opposing views but, starting (IMHO) in the lead up to the Brexit referendum, all that changed. It got nasty.

And I very, very nearly walked away from Hexus too, which would cut deep having been centrally involved since the very early days.

It has calmed down a lot recently. The occasional flare-up, which the mods and admins deal with, thankfully without me bring involved sny more. But mostly, things are way calmer than at their worst.

(*) There have even been a few here prepared to just argue from a devil's advocate perspective, just to have a goood debate.

on the upside the main protagonist of recent weeks has been banned. Hopefully permanently given how many people he's wound up in recent months. Did we ever get to the bottom of whether they were indeed the reincarnation of a former certain user (who was outright banned before)?

I don't know if we did. Either the same person or very similar indeed. But these days, I have no feedback on that. The mods and admins are good friends, but moderating matters are off limits for me. Out is out, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I noticed one person has apparently been removed, but I know no more about it, beyond reporting a post, than anybody else. Which is how I like it. The current workings of the mods room are a mystery to me.
