    Microsoft "Support"...

Anyone else had the pleasure? So I got Minecraft yesterday, recently reinstalled with Windows 10 in preparation with the latest drivers. Unfortunately it just closes once the loading bar reaches the end. I can't fault the politeness, and to get a call back within a couple of minutes on a Sunday afternoon was a pleasant surprise, but it's just a very long, thoughtless script which has now gone down the "reinstall Windows" path.

Alarm bells started to ring when the person on the phone had no interest in the crash report I had dug out and let on screen for them to see, nor dxdiag to helpfully show my computer specs. And having two hard disks caused much confusion to them. I might get transferred to Xbox support if this doesn't change anything - can't imagine what they are going to do! Should have just raised a ticket and put the information in, over an hour on the phone doing whack-a-mole diagnostics (install iTunes, oh that works, create a new user account, oh that still fails, let's try reinstalling Windows...).

I called them once as I did the update from Win 7 to 10 when they were giving it for free.
I did a fresh update but occurred some problems along the way and I got to admit they were quite good and efficient.

    Re: Microsoft "Support"...

I've used their webchat type support and it was OK. A little bit of the 'have you tried..' but once past that I got a complicated set of powershell commands to type in and it sorted the issue out fine.

    Re: Microsoft "Support"...

I have never bothered. The only time I got very stuck was trying to get the installer to correctly format and partition an SSD it disliked. I just did it manually by the command line instead.

I did once have to ring for activation after a small issue but it was automated and surprisingly swift.

I do really want someone from "microsoft support" to ring and try to scam me. I'd love to let them into a virtual machine which is just full of bugs and strange things like running services.msc plays Greta's "HOW DARE YOU".

There's a guy on youtube who purposefully does something similar but he plays the idiot whilst "reversing the connection" which sounds to me like he's using the remote desktop connection to execute a trojan which gives him meterpreter access. The things he does with said access is just hilarious as he watches them on CCTV whilst he's talking to them. In one case he took down the entire scam and had the police raid it. I'm honestly not sure I have the baws to do something like that given my missus has a job with security clearance, I have a job which requires criminal records checks and we both have firearms certificates. I expect any naughtiness with computers outside of my own virtual network would result in us both being jobless and gunless, for starters.

    Re: Microsoft "Support"...

Well it sounds like some people had more success then! Xbox support were also friendly but ultimately just trying things from a list rather than being interested in the actual problem.

It sounds like the Microsoft store has no dependency management system though, with games dependent upon Xbox services which aren't necessarily installed or up to date. And following an actual fresh install on Windows again those failed to run with the same problem! A quick Google of the error and application pointed towards me having the media player-less M edition, installing the media components fixed the Xbox app but not the game.

Just bought new computer bits so will park this until a try installing Windows non-N edition.

Have you tried installing the media pack? It should replace the missing media elements from the N edition

    Re: Microsoft "Support"...

You need to push through the level 1 support and get to 2nd or 3rd level support. I work for a software firm and the level 1 guys only are allowed to take you through a basic script - they are just whatever cheapest outsource company the firm can find. Its level 2 where they start to know stuff - Unfortunately, you won't be pushed up until you have followed the script.

It can't be any worse than google one where they just googled the issue themselves and send me the link (Which I had already tried!) and closed the case.

    Re: Microsoft "Support"...

Yeah added the media feature to Windows and now all rosy. The media feature installer from the net didn't seem to actually do anything, but i went via Windows features and that worked properly. I emailed support back with the solution

But yeah would have had to go up a level or two for someone who would actually pay attention to the crash report!
