They still try to push their own tech and hog it eg ATRAC music files - anyone use those anymore? Anyone?
Minidisc had a very long lifespan - it was even used behind the scenes in the industry for various things. The same as Betamax which actually had a significant lifespan in broadcast TV in Japan IIRC.

it wasn't just minidisc though. They tried to push it as a rival to mp3 and aac files when portable music ipods et al were coming out and evolving. Want a walkman version? ATRAC. Software compatability you ask? Well there's our thing, or our thing. Which would you like? Wait what's an ipod and why did you buy that instead? Hey come back, come back....

and there endeth the market dominance of the walkman brand.

'nuff said really. Actually, same applies to any film in the 'found footage' genre I think.

Ralph Nader called it corporate socialism.

not to mention the spurious decisions being churned out by our current cabinet with all the due diligence of three wise monkeys. The proposed planning overhaul for one. Ill conceived, based on a carefully chosen case study, basically appeasing their rich developer chums who donated to the party coffers. All forms of government suck, there is no ideal. When people are inherently selfish and corrupt what do you expect? There need to be checks, balances, accountability and ways to prevent idiots riding roughshod. The latter is particularly important these days and needs to be urgently redressed.

Don't have to try. Just read Animal Farm!

"All power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Also: "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so"!!

Remember SATA express? A whole generation of motherboards had that weird 2.5 SATA connector, and AFAICT no-one ever released a drive to plug into it

    England's Football team?

Oh -Hershey's chocolate... what a let down! First trip to the USA with time to kill in Atlanta airport and I decide to try the famous brand - disgusting! I had to buy a Snickers just to get rid of the taste.
And while we're at it, Twinkies. All these Americans going on about how I have to try one, it's a piece of Americana, etc. etc. Utterly pointless - unless you want a cheap sugar rush, and even then there are better options.

I usually start at a random point in a bands history and randomly go through their catalogue.
I can certainly see the influence it's had on many later bands, especially Oasis picked that up on the 3rd attempt.
And I recognise a lot of songs from artists that have covered them over the years and many adverts on TV.

I probably need to be in a headspace similar to listening to Jazz or classical music.
I think song pace is a big thing, it moves a little to slowly for me

It is mind boggling how much they achieved in under 10 years.
