Things that didn't live up to the hype?
With Mr. Frosty currently trending on Twitter, I thought it was worth starting a thread about things (no matter what or when) that you were hyped up to receive/buy, only to be disappointed by the reailty of them.
Given that preface, it's probably not surprising for me to say that I had a Mr. Frosty. Unfortunately it didn't look like the ads, with a tray instead of the circular opening on the ads. It was also ridiculously difficult (needing a lot of strength) to actually crush any ice.
If I recall correctly, the flavouring sachets were nothing special either.
Another thing that I'll name as not living up to the hype for me - albeit still tasting good despite that - is the KFC Double Down. I expected it to be better than it was in reality.

Spacehoppers. I didn't own one, so it wasn't a pester-your-parents personal disappointment, but they were so much less fun, less well, hoppery, than I expected. (Or were they? maybe I just failed at them in some vital technique type way :undecided).
There must be all sorts I could add to this past/present & probably future, will need a proper think. Good thread :).

Duke Nukem Forever. 15 years and we got...that.
Five Guys - Hyped by all my friends, but it's absolutely terrible. Awful, thin, greasy burgers and a daft way to do fries. Yuk. McDonalds genuinely make a tastier burger, particularly when they had their premium range of burgers that were 3x the thickness of a five guys.

RTX and all the other stuff being pushed around it,such as DLSS. Seems more a way to reduce image quality to sell underpowered dGPUs. Then compare it to images with TAA,to make it look better.
Also some of the very high end audio I listened to,which was beaten by stuff which was much cheaper.

Inception.
Finally just saw the movie that it seemed the whole world was raving about. Effects aside, it was nothing special.

The stage musical version of the Lion King. Love the movie, but the stage version just seemed a bit lame to me.
Re: Things that didn't live up to the hype?
On the musical note: Les Misérables. Not that I'm in any way a fan of musicals but my word wasn't that just a dressed up pantomime - so many tropes! Other half enjoyed it at least considering the price for tickets...

It's had more impact than the "millenium bug" tbh. Not the most over hyped event in history. It is killing people. Lots of them.
Back to the thread:
The millenium bug. Never materialised at all that one.

Of course it did. I fixed loads of bugs in 1999 that would have caused problems.
I also missed an obscure one, so first day back in January our factories briefly ground to a halt. Not for long, a co-worker fixed the problem before I got to the office.
So the fact it wasn't a disaster can be chalked up as a big victory, the possibility was there.
