Dec 2020 Reader Review time :) - need some volunteers please!

Hello one and all and a Happy December to y'all

    ITS READER REVIEW TIME

We have a rather interesting opportunity for a select few of you here - some kit to test, and to then write an honest review one &... it's all yours if you want to keep it once installed.
But please only put your hand up IF you are able, (and.... put politely..competent enough, to install it and not break your own PC - OK?)

It's the MSI MAG CORELIQUID 360R

    https://www.msi.com/Liquid-Cooling/MAG-CORELIQUID-360R

What we need are 3 or maybe 4 volunteers to take on the challenge please

We will require a Review posted here in the HEXUS Forums, of a MINIMUM OF 150 words and 3 pictures, within 10 days of receiving the MAG CORE 360R

It WILL BE THIS MONTH - the faster I get the victims listed here, the faster I can line you up against the wall and fire a cooler at you

And how do I choose between you?

MAKE YOUR CASE here, now. Tell me just how desperate you are to cool your CPU properly...

After Christmas I could, as an "old timer + clueless son" review, I imagine you won't have trouble with volunteers but if you do need another then we could once we get the bits after Santa has been

Looks at case, looks at power tools, looks at case - maybe...

Cracking offer - haven't got the space for one but I'm sure there will be an enthusiast just itching to try out water cooling!

Would be nice, but the P180 Mini wouldn't fit this..

Now, if you have a case as well that I can put things in and then review, that would work

Re: Dec 2020 Reader Review time :) - need some volunteers please!

i don't mind writing the occassional review, if it's something that nterests me. But my personal prejudices might show through on this one.

My perspective is that a screwdriver is supposed to drive screws, not glow fancy colours and have pointless twiddly bits rotating in the middle. If I wanted a disco ball (and the very thought makes me shudder) I'd buy one. I judge a CPU cooler by it's effectiveness at cooling CPU's, and to do so cost-effectively, not it's ability to put on a light show.

However, I recognise that some (probably quite a few) want a CPU cooler thatis a gimmicky showoff as well ... and are happy to pay for all the pointless glitz, and something that's more dressed up than a Vegas showgirl or a Rio drag Queen.

The critical question is .... is it an effective cooler? I don't have the first clue, not having tried it. Would I like to try it? Sorry, but nope. I wouldn't entertain the notion of actually owning such a drama queen of a device, and unlike when I was getting paid to write reviews from a neutral perspective, these days I only write from my perspective. The only way I'd ever consider actually buying one of those is if, firstly, no other non-showy cooler came even close at cooling, and secondly, I could surgically alter the device to get rid of the useless glitz without ruining the cooling aspects.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying I'm probably not the right person to write about that device. Not unless I'm being paid to step outside my personal preferences, and frankly, probably not even then.

    Oh look .... I think I just wrote a review. Sort-of.

Good luck to those who do so, but I won't be one of them either.

I'll stick with my air cooling.

Re: Dec 2020 Reader Review time :) - need some volunteers please!

While my case is certainly large enough at around 60 litres, my CPU isn't power hungry enough as I'm still on an old Ivy Bridge i5-3570k.
What I was going to suggest to any reviewers though: keep an eye on before and after VRM temps as unlike an air cooler this won't provide any airflow there.

It's times like theeeeese(channelling Foo Fighters),when I wish I didn't have a mini-ITX case, but OTH I could possibly take out the dremel....just like one of my other famous mods(cut out half the side of a Shuttle case)....hmm. It might end badly! Probably not a good idea!

    I can do it.

The front panel of my Meshify C can take a 360mm rad, my MSI B450 Tomahawk Max has the necessary ports to talk to their proprietary RGB stuff and while my Ryzen 5 3600 isn't the most power hungry CPU around I can compare the temps of it stock & OC with its current stock cooler vs this. I'm also very sensitive to noisy PCs so can see if this offers much improvement over stock there too.

I'm also working permanently from home currently so have some... flexibility which should enable a quick turnaround.

And I'll find out if its possible to turn the RGB off!

Sounds fun, but again I just don't think I can get my old Antec 300 to accept one. Or any other case in the house.

Will have to have a good poke about when I get home.
