he was also in Chernobyl. RIP poor chap. I only recently discovered Friday Night Dinner. Some good laughs to be had there.
RIP condolences.
Gutted, so gutted. Just shy of his 100 too. :( Thanks for the years of service and RIP your Highness. Huge condolences to our Queen. I gather ettiquette is to follow with statements of "Long Live the Queen!" Now on your feet, hats off, and three repeats of that please people!
The wife told me about this earlier and I was kind-of shocked. At his age I shouldn't have been but, somehow, I was. I guess it's because he's so high-profile (in this country, at least), and has been there so long at that profile (unlike politicians, footballers, music/film stars, etc., that seem almost ephemeral by comparison) that he's, well, just kinda been a fixture my entire life.
It's a weird feeling. I mean, I've never been a huge fan, but then never disliked him either. Never really paid much attention. It feels .... almost like the start of the end of an era. A move into the unknown. Times, they are a'changin'.
Like I said, weird feeling. A bit like walking down a set of stairs you know well, and suddenly finding a step you know is there is missing. It jarred my world view.
Prince Philip on Members of Parliament when he discovered Ghana only had just 200 MPs:
“That’s about the right number. We have 650 and most of them are a complete bloody waste of time."
