    The degree to which I have airplane choice is limited to researching which airlines use which planes - as the article describes, a lot of (especially smaller) airlines stick to one type of plane, so in theory it should be easy to choose or avoid some airlines.

    If going to a country with shoddy airline practices you have to do your research to know what to avoid sadly. Travelling by airplane is incredibly safe when everything is done properly, but when you see horror stories like this it gets the anxiety going.
