Hi, I've recently found out about Hexus and have enjoyed using it and have received some great advice as I've been trying put the finishing touches to my new PC build. The one area I've struggled with quite a bit is the seeming lack of direction on how one should go about using the forums and what constitutes a good post. It took me quite a while to find the FAQ and therefore the rules, and even after reading I'm still left with a few questions, the big one of which is:
What is considered a good post, and is there any way to get feedback and/or the reasoning when your posts are deleted?
I've posted a few threads asking questions, and each time I've tried to reply to a thread, my post either hasn't been approved or has been deleted. This has made it really hard to engage in a discussion or ask any followup questions, and I've found it's making it quite a lot of effort for me to want to engage with the community - especially when I've written a long post that I've put effort into and it's seemingly deleted without any way for me to salvage some of the time and effort (also, I find seemingly not being able to reply to anything really disincentivises me towards looking through threads that I otherwise might want to contribute to).
There also don't seem to be any clear guidelines on when to start a new post vs when to reply to an existing thread. My understanding with some of the restrictions on forum features was it's done in an effort to foster discussion and create community, and yet my experience - albeit limited - is that it's had somewhat the opposite effect for me. Beyond not having one's replies show up, there's also the issue I've run into is that without access to my control panel, I seemingly don't get any notifications for new replies to the threads I've started or am subscribed to, so I've had to comb through the forums to find the posts I've made and hope I haven't forgotten any!
I hope this doesn't come across as a critique of moderation/rules rather than the insight into the newbie experience I intended it to be. I have to assume it's not an easy task moderating a forum like this, especially with incentives like free Scan shipping that I'm sure encourage low effort/quality posts; whilst free shipping for Scan was how I found out about Hexus and my motivation for joining, I've really being trying to add value with my posts and contribute to Hexus, rather than just beeline for a reward! Thank you moderators for your hard work, and I hope my experience with the forums improve as I get a bit more familiar with the system, expectations, and how to contribute positively!
