Question Go for Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter (£26) or £2.50 Chinese product from eBay?

    I have a Logitech Z906 speaker system.

The Z906's control console features 3.5mm input and output jacks.

It does not feature Bluetooth, which is what I am wanting.

There's the Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter, which is currently £26 on Amazon UK and at Currys PC World.

However, there are many cheaper variants that seem to do the same job on eBay, starting from £2.50. Link to eBay search here.

Should I just go for one of those, instead?

Is there a 10% chance the ebay one will work? For £2.50, I'd risk it

Re: Go for Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter (£26) or £2.50 Chinese product from eBay?

I'd go for the cheaper one.

I have one of these (no longer available) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Breett-Blue.../dp/B00KD4748Y - Paid £10 for it in 2017.
I used it to connect my phone to my car for bluetooth audio at the time and it worked fine. No fancy codec support but it was fine for podcasts etc which is all I was after

It should do the job and if it doesn't, not a lot of money wasted

Well, personally, my question would be "does the cheap one really do the same job?"

I mean, those Logitech speakers ain't cheap, so presumably, sound quality matters to you, or you'd have bought cheaper speakers. So, for the difference between £25 and £2.50, is it worth degrading sound quality? Could the inferior quality device work, in that it connects, but degrade quality? Depends exactly what it's doing, but if there's any kind of DAC function going on, the answer will be hell, yes. Not that it will, but that it could.

For £25, (or, I s'pose, £22.50 in difference) I'd just opt for relative reduction in chance of hassle, and go straight for the Logitech.

I'll only be using it to play my PlayStation Vita games through the speakers

You might want a second hand older adapter potentially. I had issues with my vita and newer Bluetooth headphones - the signs was very intermittent. Went back to wired earphones and all ok. Check the specs/backwards compatibility with older Bluetooth standards. Might not be an issue as they're constantly powered, think my headphones kept going into energy saving mode continuously.

The Vita has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (2007).

The adapter I've ordered is Bluetooth 3.x (2009).

It should be fine, with a little luck.

Thumbs down Re: Go for Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter (£26) or £2.50 Chinese product from eBay?

I bought this one from eBay.

I've had to return it as there's a high-pitch whine when nothing is playing, and it constantly skips when there's sound playing. The device was less than a meter away.

Here's a video I made of the issue:

So, are you gonna get the Logitech one to replace it, thus answering the question in the OP?

As I only wanted it to play my PlayStation Vita games through my speakers, I don't think it's worth £26 in my circumstances.

Then you've successfully answered you own question in the OP. Your experience suggests that at least that cheap device doesn't do the same job as the Logitech one, but to you, the Logitech one is not worth what it costs. I guess the choices are to try a different cheap one (which, to be fair, might work better) or give up the idea entirely.
