That was what I was thinking about too.

IMO leave upgradeable GPUs for desktop cases, there's too much fiddling needed to get a GPU in a laptop. For a workstation laptop, just use an eGPU (which means accepting standard PCIe cards!) - they can fit in a backpack, and it's not like you'll be doing anything too GPU-heavy without a power socket nearby.

Their #1 issue at the moment I think is size - if you put aside Linus's excitement for a moment, the current gen is actually quite thick compared to equivalent laptops in the same price/performance range - 2-3mm more than the competition doesn't sound a lot, but in practice is more than you'd think. This will be a necessity right now when using more off-the-shelf and socketable components, and also some of the tricks they use to make it modular.

That's not to say this isn't an impressive device and a good step towards more repairable less e-wastey laptops, which is all a good thing - but for me, this isn't quite ready yet.

one to watch with interest though!

While I kind of agree, and can certainly see why they didn't bother this time, I'm fascinated by the idea that the motherboard can be used outside the laptop.

If they did a similar modular NUC, then a GPU would be a really nice thing to have.

Fair enough - the numbers I read showed it was around 2mm thicker at the hinge compared to it's competitors, but the numbers seem to vary from site to site...so I can take my comment back then! It also looks bulkier on the various youtube videos i've watched here, but that's probably just perspective.

It is a very blocky laptop, which makes it look larger than others. I thought it was thicker as well until I heard the measurements

I think one of the overlooked and underappreciated features is the screws and instructions. There's not an excessive amount to screw in, it's colour coded, and even has a few spares. It saves me from individually bagging and labelling screws like crime scene evidence.
It also makes it incredibly user friendly for new people to change all the parts out and learn a little about what they're doing, so I can definitely see it being great for the entry level technical ability.

...that being said I have 100% wasted my life savings on a legion pro. Maybe they can make an overkill spec one down the line with enough purchases for idiots like me!
