    Re: Pancreatic cancer and me

So sorry to hear that Chris that's rubbish. Hope the drugs kick in and you shake it off quickly.

We've just been isolating all week so we can see my dad who's recently started his chemo and the car, despite being serviced just a few weeks ago, has chosen today to breakdown on the M25. Greetings from the horribly fumey hard shoulder!

Since we'll be shoved into a breakdown van we can't guarantee isolation etc so we can't see him and there's a risk we won't find another time before his long stint in the hospital isolation ward thing having all his bone marrow removed (at least that's how he described it to me!)

I have been sleepless with worry about how he's doing I just can't fathom why things should align to shaft the car on the one day we really need it to just work. FFS. Stuff cancer and stuff garages who don't do a proper job.

Murphy's Law, Rule G, Corollary 7 - the chances of the toast landing butter/jam side down are directly proportional to the quantity and stickiness of the jam, multiplied by the cost of the carpet.

There's altogether too much of this cancer <bleep> going around at the moment. That's a rough break with your Dad, but hopefully, the actual treatment (which doesn't sound like much fun) goes well.

I know saying "don't worry" doesn't help much, but seriously, try to keep on an even keel, and shrug off the car thing. Being wound up by it, while quite understandable, won't help you one little bit, and staying as calm as you can might help settle your Dad a bit. One of the things I've learned about cancer is that we're all, well, a bit like leaves in a fast-flowing stream. We're along for the ride, whatever we try to do, and however we feel. Might as well just go with the flow, and cope as best you can.

oh ik bum to the power of infinity, as Philip Larkin was wont to write in his letters to Kingsley Amis iirc, and he wasn't wrong (nor about much else either imo).

I did notice your posts re suitable earphones & didn't want to put my beak into a thread not directly about your parents (also was unsure whether you meant one or both were in, or due to go in) - anyway very sorry to hear and to have the tin lid put on your isolating in this way, oh for pete's sake. Do hope you do find another chance to go in, and all the best with everything obviously.

    Re: Pancreatic cancer and me

I'm not entirely sure this is an appropriate line of thought, but, given you are now part of the COVID stats brigade, what effect will that have on your death and the fallout that the immediate family will be hit with, I know its morbid but, to be fair I think we're kinda past that in this thread, I'm not sure if you are insured or what sort of post-death support your family will get if your death gets marked down to COVID rather than the cancer...

    Re: Pancreatic cancer and me

I assume this is aimed at me? I'll only get marked as a covid related dead ty if I die in the next 28 days. If I die of cancer in that time it'd still be listed as the main cause of death. It won't make any difference to life insurance etc which already paid out when it was confirmed I was unlikely to survive 12 months.

Yes chap, was aimed at you..
Didnt know if it was something that had come up or been sorted since diagnosis, figured insurance companies are always looking for an out of some description, good that all that stuff sorted though.

Had a wobble the other day and passed out for a minute or two. They now want to do an MRI on my head to see if it's spread to my brain (leave it,) too.

Sorry to hear this, hopefully it turns out not to be the case for the wobble.

(And apologies for seemingly wording every post of mine in this thread in that way, just wanting to add my support without it being "ditto to what everyone else already said" as there's nothing else I can really add.)

    Re: Pancreatic cancer and me

Hope the scan turns out negative, Chris. All I can say, and I'm sure you know anyway, is there are so many things that can wobble you, from a drug reaction to simple low blood pressure. The scan is probably just precautionary. I've had a couple too (well, CT not MRI). Both negative.
