Hope everyone is safe in the storm

    How are you all doing?

Most of my fencing has come down - one fence post snapped in half and nearly went through the conservatory so I was out there trying to make the remainder safe. Bit of an expensive one to sort out later, but no-one is hurt so all good.

I hesitate to tempt fate by saying it but, so far, lots of noise and blowing but no damage here .... but we did have to chase our wheely bin down the road when it made a getaway bid after being empied. Agile little beggar, it is.

Part of the green sheeting on the shed flew off. But it's also bright and sunny too.

Re: Hope everyone is safe in the storm

Bins went in the garage last night, did see someone's recycling bins out on the street earlier - no idea where they went to!

Think we're all good here in sunny Devon now. Fences only went up late last year so would hope they would have survived!

We rent, so any major repairs are not our problem.
So far, there's some ceramic tiles that will need replacing and I'll have to rebuild the cheap woodstore roof.

TBH, I'm more worried about losing power, as everything we have is electric. No gas boilers or central heating out this way, and we can't yet use the wood fire due to young kids, combined with sodden wood from the aforementioned woodstore roof... not that it heats any room other than the lounge in this crappy cottage anyway!

I'm too far north for once (North of Inverness) and the weather seems to be "upside down" as Scotland not as badly affected as Southern Britain. A post from a wildlife photographer I follow on twitter said it was a lovely day in Shetland (60° North) with a gentle Atlantic swell lapping the shore.

Re: Hope everyone is safe in the storm

Lots of fences, trees and roofing has come down here. Mostly the plastic stuff rather than tiles.

A lot more fencing than I would have anticipated.

Allegedly the POST Office system was down as the local office said there were connection problems to the server. So I couldn't send my eBay stuff
Not sure if they were just pulling a fast one.

Can't say I'm surprised, I was dodging fallen trees yesterday morning in a HGV until we got recalled to the depot (Thankfully).

Had a few cars crushed with fallen trees, I was surprised how many cars were still out and about. I know people had work etc but all schools around here were shut, for the amount of time it lasted which was until about 1pm would have been safer to stay in.

Power is off at work, going to cost us a fair amount in lost shipments for the month, possibly £100K+. Hopefully it will be back on tomorrow morning so we can restart kit ready for Monday morning. A few tress down locally, and power cut in the village, luckily the pub still has power

Re: Hope everyone is safe in the storm

Another one that didn't want to speak too soon yesterday but all ok, was worse later in the day than sooner though in contradiction to the forecast, so it still took a bit of sitting through. Also surprised how many people & cars were out in it.. unfortunately fortunately my neighbours' bin did not go over & strew its contents everywhere, I really didn't want that to happen, & certainly wasn't waiting at the window watching it

Very grateful to have escaped the worst, anyway. Fun fact, as they say, I had Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel in my head because for a time I thought the opening words were 'Woh-ho-o Eunice, tell me how you do this'.

Re: Hope everyone is safe in the storm

Lost power Friday evening. Weathered a night at home, with temperatures down to 11°C in my room. Booked into a Premier Inn last night, just to be sure the kids were warm enough.

SSE shows 7 outages in Scotland and 396 round our way. Power not expected back until Tuesday at the earliest. Work still has power so I can go into the office, which is all they'll care about.

I think we've been pretty fortunate down here.

The Isle of Wight was reported to show the peak wind speed in the UK but I'd describe the weather as a bit blowy and not a great deal else - there were some power outages, notably in the north of the island, but I was up there later in the day and the people I spoke with said they were mostly sorted within an hour or two. I do believe there are a few outliers in the fringes of Gurnard/Cowes though.

It was still a bit blowy in the early evening on the west Wight but, as I drove home to the east, there was barely a branch swaying.

Next storm rolling in in the south west. Though 75mph wind speed so hopefully not too bad. Glad I haven't had the fence put back up yet though.
