Ok right so I know about Facebook, Twitter etc but what the hell is Pinterest.

I mean what is it! I hear it mentioned all the time and I went to their site but still can't work out what its supposed to be. What the hell is a pin?

I get Twitter, it has comments known as tweets. Facebook has comments, images etc

So what is Pinterest? Is it a shopping site?

I heard about it years ago, but never really took notice of it.

From the way the Wikipedia description of it reads, it's basically a glorified bookmarking (as in web links) site with an image being picked to represent what they like on or about what they've linked to.

If I'm remembering mentions of it correctly, I think it was usually home improvement/interior design type of things.

Thanks, yeah I just can't figure out what its supposed to be, I looked at it today and it confused the hell out of me as couldn't work out its purpose!

My wife uses it if say we are doing up a room in the house.
'pin' ideas, colours etc in one place, kinda handy, better then bookmarking lots of pictures/Web pages

Otherwise it's totally useless and makes Google image searches a right pain
