    Wanna see something dodgy ?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...vi:1:1v_search

    Stolen

Why ? - The EDX Hitachi projectors are ONLY manufactured for Schools, they are a model of projector specifically made to satisfy the BECTA www.becta.org.uk requirement , they are not availiable to buy by anyone else other than Schools through the Becta Scheme.

Oh - and there's 2 more on there too

A few of these got stolen from my old school in Blackpool. They also took 30+ TFT monitor. They did another school in the area, taking the same things. Few months later, they went back and did the school again, of the brand new TFT's replacing the old ones.

I would email them saying you live local and ask them where you want to meet up to swap the goods and then send the boys in blue round, that is if they are not all out harrassing drivers over flickering lights and other such "easy targets".

Well, I contacted ebay and this is the reply.

    ------------------------------------------

    Hello,

Unfortunately, eBay doesn't actually handle the merchandise that is
offered on the site. Without first hand knowledge of the item, we are
unable to guarantee the accuracy of the listing information.

Part of this information is contained in our User Agreement, under
article 3. I have included a portion of that Article below for your
    review:

"eBay acts as a venue which allows registered users to offer, sell, and
buy just about anything, at any time, from anywhere, in a variety of
formats including fixed price and auction-style. We do not review
listings provided by users and we are not involved in transactions
between buyers and sellers. As a result, we have no control over the
quality, safety or legality of the items advertised, the truth or
accuracy of the listings, the ability of sellers to sell items or the
ability of buyers to buy items. Do not assume that the offer, sale,
purchase, export or import of any item is valid and legal simply because
it is listed on our website. We are not responsible for ensuring that
buyers and sellers actually complete a transaction. You accept sole
responsibility for the legality of your actions under laws applying to
    you. "

To promote a safe trading environment for its users, eBay prohibits
users from selling stolen property on the eBay web site and is dedicated
to working closely with law enforcement to prevent this unlawful
activity. If you see an item on eBay that you believe is stolen, your
best course of actions is to contact law enforcement immediately. In
accordance with our published privacy policy, eBay will respond promptly
to properly submitted requests for information related to possible sales
    of stolen property.

If you do contact a law enforcement officer, please let the officer know
that eBay would be pleased to cooperate in the investigation and ask the
officer to contact us. He or she can contact us by visiting the link
    below:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/stolen.html

And clicking the "Contact Us" link on that page.

It is important that this method of contact be reserved for law
enforcement use only, as it enables us to respond quickly in case of
emergencies. The investigating officer should be sure to include the
    following information:

    1. The case number
    2. The officer's name
    3. The officer's telephone number
    4. Any relevant item number or user IDs

You can also search the site for the items and include any information
you find in your report to your law enforcement agency. They should then
provide this information when they contact us. We have a search option
located on the main menu bar that will help you navigate the site. It
can be found at the following web address:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/search/items/search.html

In summary, we strongly suggest you file a report with a Law Enforcement
Agency and then have them contact us. As always, our goal is to help you
with your questions as quickly and accurately as possible. If you feel
that you still have unresolved questions, please reply directly to this
email and we will gladly assist.

    Regards,

    Andrew Gilbert
    eBay Community Watch Team

    ----------------------------------------------

In summary, call the Police yourself and report the crime, because we
    couldn't give a stuff.

    Pathetic.

That is a rubbish reply indeed ....

Ebay seem to have the ability to just shake any responsibility for anything from them onto the customer

eBay has always been like that in my experience... You get a standard reply that doesn't even begin to answer any issues you've raised. TBH if it wasn't for that fact that so many people buy from ebay I would have given up on ebay years ago... Though to be fair I only usually stick stuff on ebay that I know I'll get much better prices for than elsewhere...

They could have come from a coded stock supplier, they sometimes get contract overuns. Or they could be warrenty repaired items, as they are unable to sell them as new.

Doesn't necissarily mean it is stolen. it's certianally possible, but ther are numerous ways someone could have gotten that model legally.

From what I've seen stolen property is sold at much more reasonable prices.

Shiato - there is no way a School would sell a current model EDX projector.

The Becta scheme is a government agency that provides schools with a chunk of money to spend on their IT infrastructure, this has to be applied for and is allocated to them to spend on IT and AV items. These items have to comply with the becta specification, in the case of projectors they are XGA resolution and a certain ANSI lumen brightness or above. The Hitachi EDX series are manufactured and sold with the express intention of being supplied to Becta registered schools ONLY.

Like I said, no way a School would sell one.
