    Is my digi-cam broken

Recently bought a Canon A520. When I'm using the viewfinder at full zoom, and I centre an item right in the middle between the crosshairs and take a shot, the resulting image is completely off centre to the bottom and left. Is the camera defective?

    Cheers

could be - depends how close the subject is - the optical viewfinders are never very accurate, but when the object is very close then they're almost useless. does it work when using it for things far away?

Not defective. Just use the display to position the shot on macro shots. Its just the physical position of the viewfinder and the lens. The angle between them is much bigger for close up shots.
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.

Of course, don't know why I didn't think that, makes sense now. Cheers.

oh, sorry, skim read your thing...yes if you look through the view finder fully zoomed then you'll miss a chunk out due to the offset. I'm a muppet for not reading carefully. please, feel free to flame/shoot/extract bodyparts/generally make my life uncomfortable... @myself!!
