Looks great from the reviews, but a bit too chunky for me. If you want a digital camera for everyday shots (rather than getting an SLR one) then after some use you're going to find it cumbersome carrying around something so big. I started off with a Nikon Coolpix one, weird shape so had to have a special bag for it which I got fed up with carrying around whilst on holiday. In the end, I ditched it and got a Sony DSC-T1 instead (fits snuggly in back trouser pocket).

Nikon 3200 is good for fitting into girly bags... not that that will be of any use to you... but it works for me!

don't get kodak digicams... they're pants [I personally don't really like kodak films either...]
Canons are good, Sonys make the sensors for Nikons so either are good (nikons tend to be over priced). Fuji are ok, Konica Minolta too.
don't be wow-ed by megapixel numbers, its what you do with it thats important.

oh and dpreview/steves digicams are top resources, even camera shops recommend them!

one problem I have with my curent kodak is when I take a picture of a moving object the image comes out all blured It's a 2.1 megapixel... Also if I take a pic in low lit areas the image has green and grey pixles all over it! Why? And will my next camera be the same way?

move exactly the same speed with it...pan with it...so your camera is moving the same speed.

the only other way is to be in such bright light you can use a seriously fast shutter speed.....so it literally takes a tiny split second to take the shot and "grabs" the moving item, capturing it in time.

But for that to work you must have lots of light to expose it or it'll be dark as a hole.

Does it have to due with shuter speeds? Should I be looking for a camera with a faster shuter? say "Shutter Speed: 4s - 1/1000s" or would "Shutter Speed: 4s - 1/2000s" be better?

All else being equal the faster shutter would be good yes. However, even 1/500th of a second should be good enough to freeze all but the fastest moving objects, and you're unlikely to be able to use 1/2000th of a second unless it's a very bright day. I don;t think I've even shot a picture at a shutter speed faster than 1/1000.

The green and grey spots on low light images is simply noise, which all cameras suffer from (albeit some more than others). Use a flash, or use a tripod and a longer shutter speed.

Kodak cameras give you a lot of spec and features for the money, but in my experience they tend to be cheaply made and slightly lower quality than other brands. You pays your money and takes your choice....

My parenst have a kodak and its pretty much what Rave says. Takes good pictures but in slightly difficult conditions it struggles. Its good for them as its point and shoot, but can be annoying when you can see a picture you want to take but the camera cant quiet get it.

Personally I like Nikon, but I havent tried any new sony stuff or canon.

i had a sony digiacm a while ago with a shutter speed of 1/1000th - i was able to take a picture of a train going ~80mph about 2 foot from me, without a single bit of blurring. i'd say if it has 1/400 or better its as good as you need

What sort or model of digital camera would you guys suggest that costs between £100 - £150. I want to get my mum a new one for her birthday. So far I’ve been looking at the HP PhotoSmart R707 which I have found for £140 on Currys.
