"next version of Microsoft’s Windows system will make PCs more powerful, reliable and secure."
contradiction in terms
Also

amusing! that'll be minus the 4 service packs and 100's of updates then.Originally Posted by Tifosi

I think Rave was referring to this nugget (my emphasis):
Gotta love "IT" journalists - I read an article yesterday about Tiger saying that it had over 200 revolutionary new features, then listed 2 of them - the ability to search for files on your local hard disk with keywords (i.e. an indexing service), a "widget" you could drop on your desktop (i.e. Active Desktop)....enable computers to process data at 64 bits per second, compared with the current standard of 32 bits per second.
Today in the same paper there was a description of how the latest MS operating systems "use 64 bits - which is twice as much as 32 bits"... in case you were really bad at maths.

PC: Win10 x64 | Asus Maximus VIII | Core i7-6700K | 16GB DDR3 | 2x250GB SSD | 500GB SSD | 2TB SATA-300 | GeForce GTX1080
Camera: Canon 60D | Sigma 10-20/4.0-5.6 | Canon 100/2.8 | Tamron 18-270/3.5-6.3
i dont get it
Since I can usually manage about 60wpm, I'm pretty sure that merely typing my first post caused my computer to process more than 32 bits a second![]()
still dont get it,
i dont think i am computer literate enough![]()
roughly... 32bit computers can process 32bits in one operation, 64bit means they can do 64bits per operation (eg clock cycle).. 32bits per second would be a 32Hz machine... Hertz, not megahertz, not gigahertz...(well i think, its a bit early for maths) read and learn
alsowhat a load of carp!! amd processors have been 64bit for a yaer now.. i'd say its hardware leading the software in this case..The faster speed will prompt the widespread roll-out of chips and hardware to support the higher speed.

5lab - that was my fave bit aswell. The article was written by Joe "I'm a muppet" Bolger.
Perhaps he should go here for Technical questions technical@timesonline.co.uk![]()
