    Blair - Sedgefield - Democracy

Having just seen our beloved leader regain his parliamentary seat I was amazed to see the number of people standing. Whilst I know that standing as a candidate in this constituency is the quickest way to get 30 seconds of fame on the telly (at the cost of the deposit), I was also heartened to at least see democracy in action.

Whilst I'm no fan of the PM at least we have a varied option. I wonder whether other democratic countries see as much variety in the candidates they can choose from in "the leaders" constituency.

True. It would be nice if the deposit system were removed to allow more "interesting" candidates in safe constituencies - if I don't like any of the big 3 I would like to make some sort of statement even if the guy only gets 42 votes.
