    How do you revise?

    Hey guys,
I have my final uni exams coming up and I was just wondering how everyone went about revising?

I'm sure most people find it mind-numbingly boring and so was just looking for alternate methods.

    Thanks to everyone who contributes

    Cheers,
    Leon

I usually write out everything that i need to know in short and cover every area and check what i have and have not covered and whether i understand completely or not. If i don't understand it i go over it again

Pass papers are best way of revising for me, well when you have a mark scheme anyway to check. But although amazingly boring I'll just read the stuff and take notes.

First exam in 7 days :S

Stop playing WoW is a start. Followed by locking oneself in library for 2 hrs stints 4 times a day...

Only way i could achieve revision was a brutal routine, reading information and writing down what i thought the key points and exam questions would be... I find actually doing something constructive with notes was good, then as exam gets closer - re reading the condenced information as a referesher.

    Good luck anyway

it depends on what your being examined on.. For example if its computing stuff with practical examples - eg programming, the best way iknow of to revise is to write programs demonstrating that particular topic. Eg for C++ containment revision I wrote a few classes to illustrate how containment works.

For less technical/more theory based ones I find that reading and questions helps me. Eg for my cisco CCNA i would read through a chapter, then do a test on it. This helped to show my weak areas in that module so I could go over them again.

I dont find that writing things out helps me in the slightest, nor does making notes etc etc. Straight reading with a bit of soft music on (nothing you know the words to, preferably instrumental) is what i find easiest

i do a bit, or cover a section that I need to do then take a break. after the break I go back over it - try and repeat everything I've revised and then see how I did. usually cover 1 maybe 2 sections a day like this. some topics with seveal sections mean this method is very handy. by breaking up your time you can revise intensely and efficiently knowing you'll have a break. often I got into it so much that I made myself push through to the end of a section before I had a break, this was mainly due to the fact that what I was on meant that to stop would break the flow and what was coming up wouldn't make much sense if I suddenly stopped. its about using your own judgement and what works best for you. you're a final year Uni student, you can't tell me you've never had a revision process of some sort in the past. how did you make it this far otherwise?!!

For some reason I don't want to take advice from this guy.

I prefer doing lots of past exam papers.

past papers. Try to get as many as i can get my hands on, sort each question in to which lecture course it comes from then look at the type/style of question that keeps coming up year after year for each lecture course and make sure i can do them without even thinking, once i've done that, i go over the alternatives, like what they might ask if they're being really mean and go off the "norm" so you're at least semi prepared for anything they could chuck at you lol

p.s. looking over past exam Q's is also a nifty way of figuring out what questions you'll be getting too. after all there's only so many questions they can ask you on a subject, and you'll find a pattern of questions appearing year after year...i did this and it helps to know you've got a goal to revise to.

5.10pm must have been the collective brainwave pattern for "past exam Q's" going through...

I need to start revising for my first year exams, just realised there only 2 weeks away, yet ive not started revising

The problem is I can get past papers, yet there are no mark schemes, and the lecturer who teaches the course will no longer answer any of our questions as apprently weve left it too late

That therefore screws about 30% of my course, Im gonna have to trawl thru my useless notes now!
