    Computer Configs...

Following on from the thread about using other peoples PC's... which I think is now a discussion about Germans hiding in bezels... I had a thought... (yes, shock horror!)

I hate using other peoples PC's as I'm so scared that I'll do something that'll mess it up.

PC's these days can be configured in so many ways that people get protective about a certain way that folders are displayed, where files are put and silly things like that...

I used to get mad at some of my friends who thought it would be a good idea to sort my start menu programs.... which meant that I couldn't ever find anything for about a week. Or put things on my desktop... grrrr

Is it just me then? I'm a control freak but does it annoy anyone else?

Hence why my PC has the guest account turned on... Anyone who wants to use it goes into that.

but yeah, my other half once "orginised" my PC, It took me about 3 weeks to find everything, now she's got her own account...

it's even worse after you've done a re-format after a longish time... trying to remember how you had it all just-so is very distressing... especially when you realise just how much crap you'd accumulated to make this or that program run a bit faster, or do something special etc

I let people on my computer, but I don't let them customize it .

I'd find it annoying if people did change my things though. I mean it's like somebody invading your private space in a sense, if somebody came into your bedroom, went through your drawers and mixed things around you'd be pissed off right?

It really annoys me when people decide to arrange my computer. Thats why i now keep my lightsaber next to my desk so if anyone starts to move things they get a quick whack across the knuckles!

    Doesn't bother me really.

I have a bit of an open-house policy with a whole manner of friends popping round all the time. On all the machines I have there are various related logins for these people, but 9/10 if they sit down on my PC - its already logged in as me anyway and I have a folder on the desktop they can download all their crap into.

I just clean this out once a month and volia - no issues arising

my mates know better than to change settings on my pc.
its not as if they should feel like they need to get confortable.

and they would generally only be using it for a short time, check emails browse the web etc.

so its no real biggy for me.

This is another reason why I had two partitions (windows 98 for games, no password and Windows XP - passworded and unaccessible from win 98 due to NTFS partition.)

Too bad my new mobo says it doesn't support win98, gonna stick linux on anyway....
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
