    All Read : Re Banners

Since the uproar with the CustomPC banner installation a lot of the companies which advertise with us have been taking a look at the forums. You may notice that Crucial and CPC banner have now gone as a result of this.

The forums are now running at a 100% loss to the site, this is a shame since we like the community. At the moment I am happy to personally sustain the cost of the forums, and see no reason to 'ditch' them. All I ask is for the quality and depth of posts to be extended, and when we do find a new advertiser - you guys do not flame them to bits, instead you speak to me about it via email.

We are happy to accept donations towards costs, but we are not going to move to a subscription site.

The flaming was imo well out of order as the banners weren't intrusive , i didn't even notice they'd gone before i read this post and than i hit a back button just to be sure.

Whats more is they were for decent stuff, ah well, some people obviously aren't happy with a large free helpful communtiy that have no crippling rules if they have to see 2 banners to help fund it

WTF is wrong with banners from Crucial or CPC? Both reputable companies who do good kit at reasonable prices. Some people need to get out more.

This site is 100% supported by advertisers, all I am asking for is for people to be a bit more understanding. If you know of another solution I am open to it - you know what my mail address is.

Just use Mozilla Firebird and turn gif animation off. Man, I just loaded up ie for 5 minutes and it did my head in!

Animated gifs do my head in. So I just turn them off!

If your browser doesn't let you do that, change browser!

But it still lets you see the picture right?

Tbh, i didnt notice they were gone till you said, and i dont care about the banners that much. If they are RELEVENT then isnt it useful for people, specially n00bs to explore companies that might be useful to us? I trust Davids judgement about what becomes invasive and what doesnt.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

OK I hadn't even noticed that the CustomPC one had gone till I read this. I'm not bothered about them at all... They're hardly intrusive..

Yeah, you can still see the image, it just doesn't animate. You can disable ads completely if you like it but it quite often b0rks the page layout.

Woaaa. I've been away for a bit and I think I have missed something. Am I right in assuming that a small number of a**holes have been flaming the advertisers? I trust that

! they are no longer members

2 they contributed towards the costs before they left

3 or David sues there a** off

I know!! What's the point in complaining about a SMALL BANNER at the top? It's not like it adds any more than about a 0.3 second to the loading times or looks ugly or anything..Christ

I can only assume there are too many stupid 12 year olds (no offence- not all 12 yr olds are stupid!) with no knowledge of the world who think they are bigger and more important than they are.

I've seen some of the daft comments over the closure of the MSN networks, but these people would be the first to moan if something happened to them.

Unfortunately the idea off a "free" internet is an impossibility, someone has to pay for it, and ultimately that has to be us, the users, in some way. The sooner these kids grow up and learn the definition of responsibility the better ( Oh no I'm starting to sound like my dad!)
