    What should I do?

    Hey guys,

Was my girlfriend+her best friend's 18th birthday party at my house last night, and we had a marque in the garden etc, I had my lovely new 1.5gb aiwa mp3 player hooked up to an amp and some speakers which was all well and good. Except that I woke up this morning and the mp3 player is gone. Basically there were a few, well, gate-crashers there and they left maybe 12ish, and there were people who stayed over and left bout 6am... So I'm guessing it was them..

Do i inform the police? I havent got any real suspects cos there were maybe 50 people at the party... Can I claim on house insurance? My Gf's parents have offered to replace it, but it's not their fault so I'm not too keen on that... arg I'm so annoyed!

*but sometimes it is the best thing to do when you don't know what else to do...

um, if the guests who left early (6am crowd) are known by the hosts then get them to ring around and find out the dodgy goings on. If no joy give the police a call with a list of names...[not that would achieve much as the police are dead slow but it'd make you feel a bit better though wouldn't it]

Its unlikely that you would get it back...

Dont bother with the police.. its most likely a waste of their time unless you had a suspect..

Just be more carefull... not easy when theres 50 people at a party and many you dont know..

House inurance probably wouldnt be enough.. usually only if house is locked and everyone thats inside is known.. it how they get out of a lot of claims.
That was atleast the case with car insurance when my dad had fishing stuff in the boot stolen. He had to prove it was locked etc.. (which was easy as the boot was visibly forced open).

Hmm.. Like the others said, unless theres a suspect there isn't really anything the police could do.

Unless you threw a party and they gatecrashed again, and then you stole it back.

You will need to inform the police ASAP so you can get a crime reference number. Often within 24 hours for some insurance companies. Without that you can't make a claim on your insurance if it's to be based on thief. They won't bother investigating anyway. Depending on what cover you have, you maybe able to just say you lost it. Sometimes it's better to say that and bend the truth a little, rather than have them believe you were being negligent - which they maybe be able to say (it's was your garden but it was open to the public). Read the small print before you start the claim procedure and same something wrong on the phone. There is quite an art to making insurance claims you know!

Sometimes people might read that as insurance fraud, which means lots of fraudulant claims go through, which means averge persons insurance premiums go up as well. But then i wouldnt want to comment.

Spoke to my dad, and he says there is a £50 excess on all claims, Which is pretty useless considering the player cost £49.99 + £8 delivery... The annoying thing is that nowhere is selling it at that price anymore... arg!

I can't see them doing much with an MP3 player, without charger, unless you were running it through the mains? And what about the USB cable how are they gonna transfer music, as they need to be product specific, the majority do! lol

But i wouldn't involve the police, it could make you slightly unpopular with ur gf and her mates.

Its a bad thing and these things always happen that is why i am cautious, if not overly cautious with my stuff, and stuff that isn't mine.

Get off yer high horse dude! Everyone knows what most damn insurance firms are like, and they will try and find any excuse not to pay out. Thats how they make so much money. Sometimes its a genuine problem you need to solve but you have to have a watertight claim and word it properly. If people read that as fraud then they are probably that way inclined anyway. And a bit stupid. Obviously you did

But as he says, its pointless anyway.

    Yeah fight the power!

Just cut your losses and get a new one. There might be on on ebay for £50. It might even be your one.
