    Spiders (Arachnophobics stay away!!)

So, I used to think that "daddy long legs" were those things that could fly, but it seems I may have been wrong. At the moment, I'm kinda confused. I've read that "daddy long legs" are spiders that sit and wait and kill other common house spiders. So what the hell are those things that fly??

Got thinking about them really as was talking to someone who's just come back from Australia and was talking about Redbacks and how they were the most dangerous spider. Dangerous to humans, yes, but AFAIK they're not the most dangerous. The "daddy long legs" spider in Australia are a good thing to have around the home, so my Australian sister tells me, as they kill the Redbacks. So even though there is no conclusive proof that the "daddy long legs" in Australia is the most dangerous to humans (coz no-one has ever been bitten by one and no-one is stupid enough to extract the venom and inject it into a human), I think the fact that it kills Redbacks makes it a hard ass.

But is the "daddy long legs" over there the same as the ones we call "daddy long legs" over here? If so, are they just as venomous but harmless to humans?

Daddy long legs aka harvestmen anren't venomous, the info you want is here

    http://www.garden-spiders.com/daddy-...-spiders-1.htm

.. and that warning for arachnaphobes is a bit unnecessary i though, so here's a nice big pucture of a spider to freshen things up

I've always known Crane flies as daddy long legs, but my dad says when he was little he used to call harvestmen daddy long legs.

Well, don't twist your face up whilst you think about it, because if the wind changes... YOU'LL STAY LIKE THAT!

And yes, that is a rather long-winded way of saying 'yes, it is an urban myth'.

I've always thought 'Daddy Long Legs' were crane flies. As for spiders, my brother's never forgiven me for telling him i saw a spider crawl up his nose & out his mouth whilst he was asleep once.

That happens 6 times on average in everyone's life, so it's probably happened to you before too!

Nowt a good dip in the frying pan for a while wouldn't solve.

Did you know that Locusts are very high in protein and give more protein than meat does?

They are quite nice actually - weirdly similar to chicken....

As for roaches... pah - they can just all die for me really.

I thought you just 'ate' the spider in your sleep (the whole 'on average' thing).
Crawling up your nose and out of your mouth is somewhat more disturbing I think
We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

No, crawling in through one ear and out the other would be more disturbing!

Daddy long legs are the most venemous to humans, but they can't bite through our flesh properly so they can't actually insert the venom into us.

I know daddy long legs dont have wings, but the ones Ive seen look more like a cranefly with its wings removed than your pic of a harvestman
