    FAO digi cam experts

My dads thinking of getting a digi cam for taking photos of stuff..

I think he will probably use it most when hes fishing. Pics of the lake, fish he catches and anything else he might see when hes there...

The two at the top of page are the ones he is thinking of:
    http://shop.panasonic.co.uk/icat/digitalcameras

Are they any good? any better ones for that price? and is there any good shops to buy from?
He was going to buy from the panasonic site but I don't know what they are like or if theres any cheaper places..

    Thanks

taking photos with a camera what ever next

they are ok camera's and not actually a bad price on panies website , the LZ1 being the better of the top 2

is there likely to be a lot of low light photos or is it going to be in nice sunny weather?

and is he going to want to take movies at all?

ive not used a panasonic one but i have used lots of £100-250 casio and pentax ones and ive thought very highly of all of them. the nikons at that price i thought were better at taking photos in difficult conditions, eg a club, or fireworks, but they're a little ugly.

also if he wants to print big images look for the higher res cameras like 5 mega pix, but for ordinary sized images with the odd bigger one 3-4 mega pix is more than enough. and if he wants to do video too the cannon ixus 40 is nice and does 640x480 for as long as your mem card takes, but its a little more expensive.

i would consider the powershot 520, fuji s5500 (coming down in price lots now), sony P200 (i have one, excellent pictures!), lots of good little olympus's out there and with some weather-proofing - good if you're going to be near water or likely to be outdoors and theres a chance of it getting exposed to water (rain/moisture etc.)...

    I think next we'll see camera's with phones built-in.

I'm surprised no one has considered that yet!
