Exclamation WTF are death metal lyrics about?

    Check it out:

    Blinding my eyes,
    The light of indecency
    Exalted demise, morbid complexity
    Walking the path, demonic heredity
Reaching the end, it opens before me
    Unyielding to the astral powers
    I foresee the unknown
    Eternally they are chanting
    Immortally they are spawning
As I watch they stare at me
    A gaze of pure insanity
    Immersed in darkness so completely
    I find myself alone
    Drinking from Ancient Waters
    I become one with them
    Unholy shrouds
    Incantations shower me
    Unveiling the secrets to truth
    Why I must die
    Preach and prophecize
    Believers are taught that their
    Souls are forgiven
    Await the false rebirth
Feeling the pain inside from out
    Reliving the past once again
Lascivious lust, I want to believe
    Succumb to the horrid disease
Stagnant and old the prophecy told
    Undying the books deceive
    Forgotten and spent,
    Rotting alone
    Forever to suffer and grieve

I think the gentleman who wrote that must have just returned from a trip to France.

I once went to see Iron Maiden at Earls Court, great gig, and Slayer were the warm up act.

The lead singer (and Bassist) stepped up to the mike and growled (and I quote)

    'This is a song about......

    ......DEATH'

    - and then erupted into the thrash metal track.

t'was funny...not sure it was mean't to be though

In all fairness death metal has never been about the lyrics...why most death metal bands feel the need to growl crap over otherwise stunning instrumentals is still beyond me.

    Works with Opeth though. *shrug*

hehe have to be careful here, gets into a dodgy area.

A mate and I once sat down and worked out about 30 different types of metal, ranging from 'beer metal' to 'battle metal' and more i'm sure its the same with emo, there will be many different types with many different meanings. They were split up by things like lyrics and speed etc...but most of the lyrics tell a story - even if its as 'pointless' as the one in the top post, ie doesnt seem to go anywhere Anyway it works in the song, doesnt matter what they mean

I personally cant stand most emo (the only really exception being FFAF), to me it sounds like whiney nonsense that just has bands like 'finch' and 'My Chemical Romance' crying into their microphones..but to an emo kid i'm sure its difference, meaningful

So I wouldnt want to go emo bashing, musics a very personal thing and Its not really fair to make sweaping statements about it..

I'm a househead 99% of the time but looking at last night I'm gonna be assisting my mate with his DJ'ing (other words .. going to the bar - prompting a few tracks to play, trying to hear requests etc etc) and some of the stuff played last night ranged from Neds Atomic Dustbin to Finch to Disturbed and enjoyed quite a few of them

As Spud1 said - Music is a personal thing, and it can sound good or rubbish depending on what mood your in.

WTF are death metal lyrics about?
Some of it's metaphorical, some of it's fictional. A lot of the more kVlt black metal bands base their songs around norse mythology, too.

If I started a death metal band we'd sing songs about puppies, flowers and giggling babies just to stand out.

Sorry, i think "Ten Masked Men" beat you to it. Imagine "independant woman" covered by a death metal band, very funny
