Question Does anyone know much about Clearing?

So I had an interview for the course I'd set my heart on, and was unsuccessful at getting a place

Fair enough it is an extremely hard course to get on to with only 20 places, but I also had my 2 back up choices at the same university and was rejected immediately for those . (I think everyone who applied for the same first choice tried the same thing as me!)

Anyway I shall be trying the Clearing route when it comes about and was wondering if you can actually apply for any of the same courses you were turned down for (obviously if there were places available at Clearing of course). So far I have had mixed responses

Firstly I am sorry to hear that

Clearing is where you apply for places on courses that a uni has been unable to fill, I would assume that the course you applied for will have been filled up as the number of places is so limited and so there would be nothing at that particular uni for that course.

You could try going through clearing for a similar course at a different uni or for a related course at the same university, I knew a few people at uni who went through clearing and were able to find something they were satisfied with.

    Best of luck

You need to watch out for the supplement that comes out in the Independent (i think) the day (or day after) the A level results come out.

My brother went through clearing, it's not actually such a bad process.
And yes, there aren't any restrictions for courses, it's a bit of a course jumble sale really. (obviously normal restrictions apply, like having the right quals or passing interviews)

You have to be quick though, places get filled pretty quickly. I'm told that Lancaster filled all its places within 11 minutes of opening on A Level results day

Yep, you wanna be there to get your results at 8 am or whenever your college opens, and start looking around now at places/courses, take a list with you and just ring around places.

    Good Luck.

    What course was it?

If you are at college (or just left) go see one of your careers advisors or people from student services, they should be able to explain the system to you and help you.

They know more than me thats for sure"!

    Thanks for the advice people

It was BA Hons Contour Fashion (lingerie etc) I had a joint fashion honours as my second choice and just Fashion Design as my third.
Im not at college but I have enough qualifications as I was at college a few years ago (I would be a mature student if I got in for September)

Sounds like something i should have done, certainly sounds hella more fun than theoretical physics

I dont know exactly how it would work if you dont have an institution to do it for you, get the clearing lists in the times and ring round like crazy i guess would be the main course of action, like i said before, get yourself a list of courses/institutions youd like to be on, so you can be a bit quicker off the draw, but also be flexible, and ring in order of preference so you can take teh offer straight away should anywhere take you.
