    Scammer wants my item?--ebay Question?

    Hi

Not sure about this one hope someone can advise me!

I have a nearly new Lexmark printer selling on ebay. The average price that this would sell is aprox £20-£50. Today i got this question (below) about buying it through Paypal but i must ship it to Greece as their moving there. I have contacted her to say OK but now Bells are ringing! Do you think i am being Paranoid?

    Doh!
Q: Hi there I am a student at the mo and would be willing to offer £30 inc postage and packing straight away using paypal. I really need a printer at the moment and only have about £30 left out of my student loan. It would need to be shipped to Greece as i am moving there at the end of the week. Please could you let me know asap. Many thanks Cat x

    sounds safe enough, but..

do it ALL through ebay, ie DO NOT sell it out of auction, only sell it to them if they win the auction.

check the cost of shipping and let them know, might be v.expensive

It sounds dodgy to me. If you ship somewhere other than their registered ebay address (e.g. Greece) the buyer can get the printer, and report an item not received through paypal. Because you didn't ship to the registered address, you'll have no defence when they use paypal buyer protection, and so you'll get the money taken out of your paypal account, and have no printer

    Dont sell out of ebay.

If you do, get the buyer to do a cash bank deposit. That way they cant withdraw/scam the funds from you.

It'll cost a lot more than £30 to send a printer to Greece anyway I reckon, so that's a pathetic offer. Invite the buyer to not be such a cheeky git.

Sounds like a variation on a theme of the old one of please send it to my fiance, sister, brother etc in Lagos, Mombasa etc etc. How ever as the cash value is low it may not be.

Therefore I'd follow Atomic's advice or tell them to send you a bankers draft as PayPal offers no real protection against fraud.

Personally speaking as others have said, it would cost alot to ship to Greece, I'd tell the prospective buyer to go take a running jump & stop wasting your time.
