And there's me been waiting and waiting and putting off an upgrade. Me thinks the switch to PCI-E is now due. Do you think the 3200 venice with x10 multi would be a better bet? i.e. same 300Mhz HTT x10 = 3gig

I've got a really old duron 700MHz, you reakon I could give the L2 cache mod a try? I'm not bothered about trashing the chip, it's not very useful to me but possibly getting 1.2-1.3GHz would be nice

Them durons have all the cache already I think

The new durons (applebred, etc) had 64kb cache, but were just thrubreds (256kb cache?) with so much disabled, as it was buggy, but could be enabled on some

My rig's gonna have to do me for the next 12 months at least. But what a little gem of a chip. This is exactly what both the hardcore AMD fanboy & the cost conscious gamer needs. Who needs an overpriced multithreading room heater anyway

Wait a minute- if it clocks so easily to 50%, why don't they just sell it as a 4500+?

right... thats it I'm gonna break into Carlh's house and swap his 3500+ Venice with my Winchester

He runs EVERYTHING at stock so he'll never notice and I can then play "spank my system" and clock it like I used to do with my NF7-S based kit...

    now... wheres the spare key....

Because when you overclock you reduce the life of the CPU and chances are it's more likely to make more errors in complex calculations.

Overclocking is fine for gamers, but for anyone who needs precise calculations and stability it wouldn't really be done. Nothing would suck more than leaving a machine rendering some complex 3D animation for 30hours only for it to crash at 90% due to the CPU being slightly unstable.
