    Mini Disc

Anyone know anywhere online that sells pre-recorded Mini Discs? HMV and Virgin Megastore are all in VERY short supply, and all their current albums are rubbish.

Just to clarify, by pre-recorded I mean actual albums. eBuyer probably sell blank ones.

When i owned an MD, actual albums on disc were either very rare or very expensive! What i found mostly was the albums moved to MD were old. Dosn't help a lot apart from say what you've said yourself really!

Yer, the idea was good. Same amount of data, but in a tougher smaller case.

Yeh, I've had my minidisc (Sony MZ-r90) since it came out years ago and it's been brilliant.

Only problem was that CD was too well integrated into everything and it just wasn't ready to be replaced.

Electronic storage seems to be the way of the future, perhaps with wireless updating technology to transfer tunes with the possibility of downloading direct from manufacturer. With an improved format, similar to ATRAC of course.

    That'd be sweet.

Their Net formats aren't bad, although I have an MZR-91 its quite good. I think MP3 players have taken off though, better than Mini Disc.

Still one can always buy the CD and then transfer the audio to the mini disc via optical cable. Trouble is inputting all the text Thats tedious!

Minidisk kills all known CD's Dead.
Much better format, don't have a clue why they didn't take off,
All they needed to release was a pc minidisk drive (you could csave work on there or mp3s) its rewritab;e, they dont break...
    a perfect format.

The CD has a lot of positives - on its own it has the highest audio clarity of all digital formats, since it is not compressed. Therefore, what you hear is really what the artists want you to hear, whether you actually hear all the sounds, it's up to your equipment (much like vinyls). Without CDs, all other popular digital formats are compressed (mp3, MD, etc) and for people who want musical clarity, that's not good.

Believe it or not, a while ago, myself and a friend of mine was looking into using MD technology as a PC storage platform. The problem is that the compression algorithm of MD is so good that the MD itself only holds around 140MB of data - that's a 1:7 compression! What good does a 140MB device do in this day and age? Do you have an Iomega Zip250? If not why not? That's because CD-R is so cheap and CD-R/RW drives are also very cheap, to add to that you can have 700MB on a CD - a vastly superior storage platform. Imagine bring another format along that holds only 1/7 of a CD - it'll just sink like a lead balloon...

MP3 players are 64MB or 128MB with no expansion cards (setting aside the expensive iPods etc) 140MB is MORE than both of those
