    Holy big shark batman! [56keke]

    Rawr!

This mako shark was hooked in the mouth off the coast of wave rich Nova Scotia, fought slightly for fifteen minutes, came up along side of the boat to have a look, which was just long enough for one of the crew to put a rope around it tail.

That’s when the **** really hit the fan.

The shark took off, towing the 42-foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 knots-just like in the movie Jaws. The boat was taking on water and the shark would jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark actually drowned.

The big guy weighed in at 1035lbs. Might be time to reschedule that Nova Scotia trip.

Conservation status is at 'Lower Risk' so in this case yes. I for one admittedly pretty glad that this guy left the genepool, but it's certainly not right to kill something for the hell of it :/

Big fish indeed, and Mako's are fighters, jumpers and some of the fastest sharks around. Not sure about it pulling the boat though.

Tell you what boys, how about we let you fight the sharkies on equal terms, we'll give you diving gear, one of these , and a few types of weapon - spear guns, bangsticks, and CO2 darts, and then we'll see how you do.

That I'd like to see on video.

Mako's? Are they great whites cos that shark looks like a Gwhite to me. And the guy that caught that fish should have been thrown in the water and left to fend for him self .

p.s. it looks all bloody as its front lip probably scraped the deck and since its not being supported by the water column all the blood rushes to the lowest point in the body giving it the rather menacing look.

Agreed. As an angler i would find no honour by throwing a rope around its tail and letting it struggle against the weight of the boat for it to then drown. How heroic

Shark fishing is not illegal. Most shark* fishing boats are operated on a catch and release ethic. The line is cut above the hook, with the hook being left in the fish. These hooks are designed to rot and fall out within a week or so, and don't hinder the natural feeding pattern.

*refering to big sharks/sport fish ie Great whites (protected),Makos, Marlin etc
