    Stress...

ok, so my exams are over (for now) and i dont have anything to worry about other than how i'm going to enjoy my summer, and all the things i can look forward to...

    So why am i stressed???

The past week or so i've hardly slept at night and i've (apparently) been grinding my teeth, resulting in my neck/jaw/ear being in constant pain. It's apparently stress induced, but i dont know why!

I've tried relaxing, i've tried going out and blowing away the cobwebs, i've tried thinking about all the nice things i'm going to be doing this summer, but nothing seems to have worked!

Does anyone know how i could get a good relaxing night sleep without the jawache after??

    It worked for me.

Fi, you are an intelligent person, so perhaps it’s not having anything to stress over that’s getting you stressed, if you see what I mean? Maybe you could throw yourself into a good book, or something. Maybe it’s hard to go from work-work-work to nothing to do just like that.

Wind down slowly, read, maybe do a bit of exercise, join a gym or something.

Failing that, throw yourself into my arms, and I'll guarantee you a good night’s sleep, although I can't promise anything about the jaw ache. (Sorry. Apologies to everyone on the forum)

First he'll bore you into submission & then he'll expose himself & you'll laugh so much your face hurts. Thus forgetting any stress

Mr Ba, Mr Dum and Mr Tish, Sir!

(Below par, must try harder. Probably mid 40s, still secretly loves x-wife, mid life crisis looming, Vin Disel impersonator work now threatened due to disapointing critical reaction to The Pacifier, not sure of sexuality so has tattoo and girls job, to cover both bases, used to live with 3 nurses but never got a crack at any of them, leading to inferiority complex and crap hair cut, etc...)

Some kind of muscle relaxant might help to stop you grinding your jaw when asleep. I know my brother gets a nasty pain in his shoulder when he gets stressed and the muscle relaxant helps.

reading a story book before bed focuses the mind onto one thing, this then results on you falling asleep and having your thoughts centered. try it, it might work

I did this... After my dissertation was handed in I had real trouble getting to sleep, there was still so much stuff whoooshing around.

Make sure you get into a proper bedtime routine (corny i know) and find time to relax, sit down with a hot chocolate and read a book. I found TV doesn't work for this as you don't have to concentrate as much.

It took me a good few days to calm down properly... as you say, days are fine, but when the sub concious takes over at night, there's a whole lot more to address...

I agree with Tiggerai, get into a routine. Relax before going to bed ie read, relaxing music, hot bath. Prepare your bedroom, turn off all electrical items so no noise is emitted, turn off anything that gives off light ie radios/clocks. Get the room as dark as possible. Good ventilation always helps, so make sure a window is open all night.

If your still having problems in a week or so then a vists to your local GP may help. Having suffered from diagnosed stress (mental exhaustion as my doctor put on my sick form) i know it can be a very alarming. Don't let it get you too down, it does sort itself out.

The fact that it happens in your sleep means that it's a subconcious thing thats bothering you, are you worried about your exam results?

Or the fact that with your exams out of the way you will soon be leaving the education stage of your life behind and moving on to the real world?

    Psychoanalysis is the answer!
